tuned port fuel injection Empty tuned port fuel injection

Post by Guest Sun Jul 17, 2011 3:30 am

Hello, this is my first post since joining this site and my question is this; I have a radical custom 1966 Chevy van that I am powering with a 350 tuned port motor and 700r4 trans and while i have done this many times with cars (mostly 50's hot rods) i have never with a van so does anyone know if a new G-van tank from say a 1995 model year with throttle body EFI would fit in my body? The tanks look similar in dimensions I don't have a newer tank to compare with. I have been waiting for one of the yards I deal with to bring one in but no luck and thought someone here might have so helpful input. cause having the a factory style in the tank pump would make for a clean install plus give me more gauge options for fuel level gauges because of the 0-90 ohms sender
    Thanks in advance
    Andyvan

P.S. i know I will have to change to a higher pressure pump in the tank to run the TPI over the TBI

In the Members Gallery I believe Tanya's Early, there is a good pic record of a late model tank install. It involves moving a crossmember but is a clean looking installation, I think I will look into it on my next build also.

The 1st Gens have the little 16 gallon tank and that crossmember over the rear end holds it in place,,,,,,,,the 2nd gens, have the wider 24 gallon tank so that crossmember is mounted a few inches forward to hold it,,,,,,,but M1Dadio has a tank with the fuel pump in it for his fuel injection,,,,,lets see if he has a smaller tank or moved the crossmember to install it,,,,,,,,,

Hello Andyvan: first, welcome to the vintage-vans site. You will Have fun here!

I instaled the TPI with 700R4 into my 65

I used a 1988 G van tank from the TBI van.
It is the same length and width \of the 2nd gen van so I had to move the frame rail farward.
I had to close and reposition the filler bung to line up with the van body.
I used the sendor that came with it, just intalled the TPI pump onto it.
its a 90 ohm sender, gauge options are a serious consideration for this project.

It hangs lower because it is about a 32 gallon tank wjicj works well on road trips.
It also mounts down some to clear the overflow air dome in the top center, the fuel filler overflow hose connects to the sender. This design prevents the common overflow at the pump and especialy turning a right turn with a full tank.

I also used all the charcole canister vapor recovery system oln my install because it saves fuel and the environment, especialy in hot climates.

You can find pictures here and I will post more pictures based on your questions.

Best to pick "view all" cuz theres about 700 pictures

Ya, I forgot to mention Gotavan made the straps.
And a darn fine job of them too!! they fit perfect , look good and are strong!

You might also notice the recess in the 88 tank for the straps lined right up with the strap location on the 65 G van
