    Headliner Removal? Empty Headliner Removal?

Post by cculella Fri Jun 24, 2011 8:49 am

In my 1st Gen Chevy, the headliner seems like it is locked behind welded-in roof crossbeams. Is there a way to remove it without tearing it to bits? I am looking to add all new headliners throughout and need to know how to get the old one out to re-cover or replace it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If your talking about the one if the front(over doghouse) Its gluded on with some heavy duty glue(Looks like rust when you pull it off) I think they put it in before they put 1st rib in??

That's the one I am talking about. So you're saying that the only way to remove it is to tear it out or remove the 1st rib and pry it out? That is a major pain. Has anyone re-covered the headliner without removing it?

That headliner, on mine anyway, looks like it is there to stay. If I found a suitable stock looking headliner I'd probably just glue it over the old one and tuck it in at the edges. Of course, I'd love to sandwich some sort of insulating/sound deadening foam between them. I wonder if anybody here has done so and if so how it turned out.
