    Hi Steve,

I've put a couple 200's in my Falcons and my '61 Econo has a 200 in
it at the moment. It's a direct bolt-in as long as you have the "high
starter" model (more common.) The low starter is extremely rare and
has the Small Block V8 bolt pattern, 1980 model year Ford. I'm dropping
my 200 when I get my 250 back from the machinist.

    You won't be disappointed.

yeah thanks guys, i got it running better today and pulled the valve cover, the seals were all in pieces in there. there is 150 psi per cylinder, and steady 21 in hg. its burning some oil but i hope a valve seal job and some sea foam will fix that. its a releif to have a fall back engine now as the 144 is going down fast. its very hilly around here and its killing the motor. i think i might put the rear end from that maverick in the van.

My wife said she is going to forgoe getting her nails done so she can help do up the engine, plus she got filthy today for hours cleaning the motor with four cans of engine brite and scrapers. shes a keeper!

all cleaned up and ready to go in friday night! we did : valve seals, timing chain, water pump, frost plugs, and a bunch of other stuff. we didnt tear it right down because the compression is good and the seals stopped it from burning blue, so in it goes.

    Nice, real nice...

You did not mention what transmission you were going to use?
I have 2 C4's on my Falcons and the standard 3 speed on my
Econo. Block numbers on the Falcons were D6xx and C5xx on
    the truck.

Do you have the "dual bolt pattern?"

the van is a 62 and the motor is a 70. but the thing looks like it will fit. i'll look again. i do know that the pilot bushings are different for the 144 and 200 so i got them both just in case.

heres the rear view... i took the ruler under the van and got those two measurements off the bell housing. the flex plate is still on the motor because i need to borrow my buddys 1/2 impact to get them bolts off. so this is a 1970 200 going to a 1962 bell housing. all the measurements check out. maybe this is the dual bolt pattern??? im using the original three speed transmission

yeah i looked it up on various sites and its good until 1978 when they went to a partial windsor pattern (4 of 6 bolts) before that in 1968 till 78 some of the 200's were produced with the dual pattern for a nine inch clutch. the giant aoutmatic bell housing on the maverick i removed this motor from used the same mounting holes as my little three speed. i have a picture of it on my phone.

    Yep Steve,

That's a high starter, "dual pattern" block. Very common, easy
    to get parts.

I noticed a flexplate on your freshie, but as you say, you are taking
off the flywheel that is on the 170 with clutch/etc and probably swapping
it over during the transplant surgery...

I believe you will use the 170 style pilot bearing for the Trans Input
    Shaft.

Might want to put new motor mounts in at that time. I tore mine up
pretty quick due in part to the nice torque/power from the 200.

thats good news! i had a bit of a heart attack there. the throttle linkage is going to be a weird thing, guess i'll have to fabricate something to go from a pull to a push. also does the original air cleaner tin fit under the doghouse?

I'm not sure what the original air cleaner looks like. I have an oil
bath original-looking one of some sort and looking up from underneath
I have about 2 inches to spare (this is a serious concern for my 250 since
it is a taller engine, the 200 isn't but you have to use a carb spacer plate
on most carbs going on the 200.)

That carb spacer is a pre-heater that your heater line is supposed to run
through. It re-orients the carb to point the right direction. I could try and
get some pics if interested in seeing the linkage.

I recommend keeping the linkage as stock as possible with the given parts
rather than going over to a flex cable type. Cable type will require more
    fabrication than meets the eye...

Here's some photos, not the best but I'll try to put words to each one:

    my new 200! Imgp8910
(looking rearward, linkage rod on the left comes from the gas pedal and hits a vertical bell crank, then the rod on the right heads toward the carb) (pivot of the crank is at the bottom of the crank piece. Both rods connect at top of the crank.)

    my new 200! Imgp8911
(crank takes motion and transfers it to the carb. "Forward" on rod going into the crank makes the same "forward" motion on the rod coming out of the crank.) (If opposite motion is desired, then this crank could be modified to do it, "push" becoming "pull")

    my new 200! Imgp8912
(link rod going to carb. The rod has been tack welded to additional rod that continues to the carb. (double rods if you look closely)) (Note ball socket at end of rod)

    my new 200! Imgp8913
(SECOND bell crank, looks to be a common type, then a THIRD link rod connects up to the carb) (this bell crank pivots on the Carb Spacer mentioned before, which also has a PCV connection on my particular motor, via rubber hose)

    my new 200! Imgp8914
(shot of my air cleaner, not sure if it is stock, came with the truck so I'll use it until I put my 250 I6 in. Note the intake is up high which is bad as that is where the hottest air is inside the doghouse...)

I got to admit, the action on this linkage contraption is pretty darn good.

Let me know if you need more pics,
    George

the only thing i need to change is the pivot for the bellcranck under the carb. on the new motor the shaft is nonexistent and the plate while present is not equipped for a shaft so... i will use the carb nut and mounting stud to hold a washer welded to a L shaped shaft and that will become the pivot point for the bellcrank. other than that it should work.

Hey George!! - Nice pics - thanx for that for all of us that have this setup/van. I did notice something on the pics = If your fuel filter is a Plastic one???? Looks like it to me - get rid of it soon as it sits above the exhaust manifold - get a metal one & replace it & the Rubber Hose- we hate to see those engine fires in our vans=Happy vanning

Steve- please post photos of the fabbed parts, they may be of future value on here!

Twinpilot001- Good call on that filter (I didn't do that myself, more P/O stuff
to deal with.) BTW, the guy I bought my 250 I6 from has a '63 van-up and that's exactly
what happened one morning going to work. Engine fire gutted the whole interior.

For how cobbled together my 200 is, it runs pretty good.
(not my style of engine-eering, ha ha. Just haven't got to it yet.)
