I was noticing another small difference on my dodges and thought I'd ask...

On the Dodges, the side doors have both inside handles (you can get out from inside) while the rear doors have only the second door handle (the one without an outer) so you can't get out if closed in from the rear. Both are panel vans, not wagons.
Is this the same for the other makes?
On no doors, are there 2 handles on the inside rear doors?

Trivia question for No-Door owners Empty inner handle

Post by EconoUSAparts Mon Apr 18, 2011 7:10 pm

Im guessing its the same as on Fords where safety requirements mandate the inside handle as a second means of egress from the rear. Theres probably a lock button too on the panels, just like the side doors. On my 64,I driled holes and added the inside handle and lock button from a junk parts door so I would have the inner handle, even though my 64 isnt a panel. Its nice to be able to open the rear door when camping from the inside when its gets hot inside. So long story short, yes no door vans have the inside handle and lock button on the rear doors.

On my 66 Ford panel I have only one handle inside on rear doors(driver side door only). If you had to get out through the rear you would have to kick out a windoow to reach the outer handle to open the one rear door that over laps the driver side rear door. On the side doors there are two handles, one on each door on the inside. You can open the side doors from within. Just a thought...maybe passenger vans had the second handle inside on rear doors, possably to be used as an emergency exit or regular use for rear passengers, and cargo vans did not because there should not be passenegers riding in the back only cargo....Tim is your 64 a full window passenger van, and if it is well then that blows that theory all to HE double hockey sticks. Maybe a special order kind of thing...

My Chevy Nodoor(did) only had the L side rear insde door handle & no way to unlock it from inside.
I have only seen inside door locks on the side door of Sportvans,on Chevy vans. None of my 6 Chevys have inside door handles on the R back door
