Econoline Power Brakes Information. Empty Econoline Power Brakes Information.

Post by kgdb Sun Apr 17, 2011 10:15 am

I got several pm's on the power brake setup asking for information and a how to. I am not great at doing how to's, would rather be building something with my hands but I hope this gives a bit of information and answers a few questions. Feel free to pm me if you need clarification on something or more information.

This is a very easy modification to do, the Econolines have a lot of room for this but there are a few areas that required trimming up and a few easy fabrications to get it in there. Again, I hope these pictures help you out.

As I am running drums in the rear and disc's up front I will be adding a adjustable proportioning valve to the rear brakes as well as a 10 # residual valve. Up front to the disc's I will run a 2 # residual valve. These parts are ordered, I am just waiting for them to arrive.

Also as my motor is whacky and does not run a lot of vacuum I will also be running a Vacuum canister or maybe even a vacuum pump.

Never ever ever forget about your brakes, do what you want to your Econolines (or other earlies) but ALWAYS upgrade or renew your brakes!

    Excellent Kevin!

I wonder if you could get another pic of the notching of the belly
    pan (first pic, above).

You just saved me a lot of figuring! ha!

Lastly, how long will the vac line be?

    Best regards,
    George

I have yet to modify the belly pan, that is next on the list. I will be sure to add a picture when I get that done. As far as the vacuum line length, it will be aprox 30" in my case.

Thanks for the excellent write up Kevin.
Whose pedal assembly are you using?
Part numbers and suppliers would be most helpful.
    Thanks again!

Pete's Muscle Cars. He also sells on ebay under pete53e. This setup up is his 55-59 Chev Truck Assembly.

I shortened the pedal in the cab by about 3". The amount depends on your taste and the feel you like.
