Scissor Lifts
I am considering buying one of these so I can do more of the work on my 61 myself. I can't crawl under one and then get back up very easily so I always have to send my Econos out to get work done I can't do myself. http://www.asedeals.com/scissor_lifts.html

lifts
Take it from a former buisness owner - I used the sissor lifes & the 4 post lifts- I would only buy the 4 post lift =extremely stable when loaded- you can store another car under it and even add an optional lift to them to raise the wheels off the lift= if you need to do any brake work. They are bullett proof! Ill never buy another sissor lift -my 2 cents

Re: Scissor Lifts
I would rather have a four post lift but don't have the room. I also am looking at this one.

Re: Scissor Lifts
I was at the local Aamco and saw them using two of the portable lifts. They look like they would tip over but they had a F150 on one and my 61 only weighs 1/3 of what an F150 does. I really like the 4 post lifts. It would be great to put the pickup on top and a van underneath but I don't have the room. My ceilings in my garages are both less than 12 feet . I could put one outside but the city won't allow it.

Re: Scissor Lifts
I've used them, and they do have their place.
In a home hobbiest shop with no other lifts, it would be on the bottom of the list. Safety (First), usefullness and value are the criteria
4 post first.
2 post asymetric second
2 post third
Tall ramps tied for fourth (like the used car places have for display)
Short scissor lift tied for fourth
portable lift sixth
in-ground 1 or 2 post seventh

Re: Scissor Lifts
If your garage ceiling is less than 12 feet then it seems like the portable one would be the best for your needs. And besides, couldn't you just wheel it ourside when you need to use it?
I wish I had room for any of these! I've always wanted the four poster. Not only for the lift capabilities but for storage of my extra car ('91 Miata). But with 9 foot ceilings, and no space to expand my garage, I'm stuck.

Re: Scissor Lifts
Remember- all=== You can pour a slab or install a 4 post lift -outside & eventually put a roof over it if needed- and u can always rent it out if needed as its outside. Id give anything to have an outside paint booth & life to rent out. I have the property.

I have a 4 post. A friend has a paint booth. Life is good, except the hoist is buried!

Re: Scissor Lifts
Boy I wish I had that much room in my garage. 4 cars, a motor and all that other great stuff.. Guess it is time to print this out and show momma that I need to build a bigger one..

Re: Scissor Lifts
The city and home owners association won't allow me to put a four poster, two poster or 1 poster outside. Scissor lifts are OK since they can't be seen from the street unless it is raised. The portable one is ideal and I would buy four of those tall jack stands to put at each corner for better stability.

Um, 4 visible motors...
2 silver early hemis
The green one is the small block destined for my van, and the 400 out front. There are 4 others not visible.
Gotta walk sideways in a lot of it. I need another that same size for the projects, another for the drivers and this one for the work area. I just swapped wheels and put on bumpers in that dirt/ gravel driveway...
