2011 Council of Councils... who wants to Caravan down the west coast with me???

Hey Gang!

I'm hatching a plan to attend the 2011 Council of Councils van show in Buena Park, CA. The goal is to make it there by Friday afternoon, but I'm shooting for thursday.

This will be the first serious road trip for my '64 'wiki-van'... I would love to meet up with any other WA, OR or northern CA vanners who want to hook up and caravan down to L.A.

The tentative plan is to leave out of Seattle Tuesday, February 15th after work and head south, probably camp out somewhere in Oregon.

yes the 101 has a lot better scenery but takes a lot longer.I take the I5 when I visit family in Centralia, Washington only because I am in a hurry to get there and back. The 101 has some nice beach scenery. Lots of nudist beaches too. Haha.

I will be there on Saturday. Looking forwards to meeting you guys there. Just look for a blue shirt or jacket with " Inland Vans Berdoo" on the back, that will be me.

I'm concerned about the weather and I'm needing to face reality so..

New Plan: Due to possible nasty/snowy/icy weather, I'll be hauling my van with my '99 Silverado 2500 4x4 truck and flatbed trailer. The big Silverado is a very reliable tow rig in any type of weather, so it takes alot of stress and worry out of the equation. I would not want to be caught in snow or ice while driving my '64. That would suck and could be dangerous. Trailering my van with the truck makes much more sense, although parking can be a hassle at some places.
Now planning to leave Seattle before dawn Wednesday morning. Taking I-5 south all the way, try to arrive Thursday night. Return trip will be north up the 101 to San Francisco on Sunday.

I'm still down to caravan and I will be carrying a full compliment of tools and a floor jack too. If I'm caravaning with a group and somebody breaks down and we can't fix it on the road, we'll put that van on the trailer and drive my '64 the rest of the way... and then repair the broken van at C of C.

John, how about we meet in Salem, OR. I want to travel south on I-5. While we are there maybe visit Bills66 as we are passin' through?

sounds good. Still trying to figure out if I can go for sure. Been spending too much on my 72 and my 67 elky latley. Going to do my budget this weekend. I'll probably tow mine too with the 4x4, at least over the passes. I'll keep ya posted.

Everyone I know from the East Coast is flying in, so that would not be a problem for them! I know how bad your highways out there can be, as I have driven them in the past! lol

I myself am NOT happy with the weather forcast Good news is, if the weather is bad, the business will be closed and there is no reason (except for sickness or health) I can't go (as long as I get the new pads put on my brakes, safety first), but the BAD news, if we get snow, I am incllined to stay put... I worry not about MY driving ability, but all those other stupid people out there who will drive on a 2 lane highway like a summer dry day fingers still crossed

BajaCharlie what yard is that van in? I'm thinking I need the roof for my van if I don't end up putting a ragtop in what used to be my camper top. I'm going to be up there Saturday for the show. A possible Friday for the night's festivities.
