Hmmm. Guess that's why I'm asking. Found a lot of contradicting info out there and having only dealt with a few different rear ends my self I thought I'd ask our members since we all have a rather "Hand's-On" approach..
Thanks Don Anyone else care to share what they have?
I am thinking that the capacity and size would determine the actual number of teeth in a rear end,,,,,,,but if we are talking Vans, the 3:08 was 12-37. But they are really rare, like maybe only in the 1970 vans,,,,unless someone installs one from some other kind of vehicle.
Hmmmmm.... Reason being, I'm getting ready to drop the 327 & 2004R into the panel and haven't really addressed the rearend gear ratio yet. The rear in the 65 "Monster" panel parts van was out of a 69 Camaro with a POSI & 3:90 gears. Or so I was told. Have not cracked the case yet. But trying to get an idea of what to expect with this combo.
Man.....Ester is hummin at 70, 4.11 12 bolt with a 700R4. 65 is better sounding, but I could pull a house down in 1st gear......if I could get enough traction!
With the calculations I figured and the O.D. ratio being .65 at 70mph I should be between 1500- 1650 rpm's. And that works for me...... Also thinking if I shelf the 650 cfm and use the 500 my mileage will be ok as well. We'll see...... Will just have to play with it once I get it all together.....
my 350/700r 4.11 has a sweet spot at 60mph about 2100 rpm , I made 13mpg on the Bakers trip and that was fighting some big wind on the way home. It even blew me off course and didnt meet back up with Gotavan Dan til 90 miles later about...hehehe
That's about what I'm getting in the Sportvan with the 230 & 2spd PG at about 50mph. I don't see taking any long trips at that speed anytime soon. If I run at 60mph the mileage drops to around 10mpg. And that would mean stopping every 150's miles to fill up....
Well just cracked the rear diff on the parts van and did not find the 3:90 gears I was told were in there but rather 3:73's. I guess this will put me at 1750 rpm's at 70mph rather than 2145rpm's.... Thinking this is a very good thing!!!
