I just saw a thread where the Chevy guys have an option of moving their battery below the floor. Any Econo-heads out there do something like that? Wha-jado?

Re: Econoline Battery Relocation
I've been hoarding Chevy battery boxes and their lids with this in mind. Just haven't got there yet. I do have plans to cut the floor in my 67 pickup when I get it back on the road. I'll do a thread on it when I do. Now that I've put the eight door on the back burner I'm planning on digging out the 67. Do some work to it.

Re: Econoline Battery Relocation
Not an E-head, but I'd imagine that any welding shop can build you a frame that will hold a battery out of angle iron, cheap. Now, how are you going to mount it, and how easy is it going to be to service?
There are other things to consider, and there are a bunch of products that can hold a battery. Look them all over and decide what fits your needs best.
Search for Model A street rod battery holders, boat battery boxes, race car boxes, etc. You will usually find something isn't right with each design, and you will find the best compromise for your needs.

Re: Econoline Battery Relocation
Your best bet is to wait for someone parting out a chevy. You can get the box , floor door at one time

Re: Econoline Battery Relocation
I did mine it was easy and there are pics below on Southermans thread called "original battery location" it is about 20 threads down. I did a box that is weatherproof and accesses from inside.
Hope this helps,
Johnny

Re: Econoline Battery Relocation
used the OEM Chevy floor pc and lid and installed it behind the passengers seat for easier access on a 62 five wndw, the Chevy floor pc makes it easy.

Re: Econoline Battery Relocation
I saw someone here had a “drop down battery box” and I liked it. got one on ebay for like $75. but I’ll probably put it in the a100 as I never got around to installing it on the orange eco van.
wouldn’t have access to if from inside, but it’d be easy to get to if needed

Re: Econoline Battery Relocation
Hi Donn,
Yep, Much to my neighbors protest they are all mine. There are 14 here right now, seven are Econos. The yellow and red Econos in that picture are gone now. The 59 Chevy panel is in my barn waiting until I hit the lottery to restore it. (it needs big bucks) I have an addiction to these things. LOL. It's the only addiction I have left. Had to loose all the others.
Here's a shot of the "Econoline Ranch"
The car barn, It's a project in it's self. The Impala went last summer. Needed more room for Econos.
It get's a little crowded around here. Two car trailers, a boat, about a dozen John Deere mowers, I need more room or a big yard sale. Can't decide which.
This is the latest addition. After driving my 91 F-150 for 21 years I decided it was time to get a new one.
