CRAGAR S/S WHEELS UNILUG Who's in the know? Empty CRAGAR S/S WHEELS UNILUG Who's in the know?

Post by Casimier Wed Dec 15, 2010 6:01 am

Just got some 6" x 14" uni-lug cragar s/s wheels for the vickup. They are marked on the back 4.5 and 4.75 and they have that race track shaped bolt hole?
? No. 1 Will they fit?
? No. 2 What lug nuts and washers do I use? 1/2"-20 lugs with Cragar Offset washers?
? No. 3 Do they make a lock/lug for these wheels?
? No. 4 What P size tire looks best? I'd like to go with a wide low profile tire like the radial T/A's. Just don't know the best fit.
Here's a pic of the LOOK I was lookin for....old pic from Ebay
just that the wheels are not wide enough....

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jim

Jim, the washers "do" fit inside the indents "Race tracks".

    Washers:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cragar-KW225-1-Chrome-1-2-Offset-Oval-Washer-1-pkg-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem483dd05fbeQQitemZ310274711486QQptZOtherQ5fVehicleQ5fParts

    Lugs:
Without seeing the wheels it's hard to tell exactly which lugs you will need (SHANK MAG STYLE ?/STANDARD ACORN? Depending on exactly which Cragers they are), but here's a good place to search once you have the wheels.

    http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=Cragar+lug+nuts&_sacat=0&_odkw=Cragar+Offset+washers&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

    Tires:
In my opinion 195-225/65's in front and as much meat under the rear as you can fit!

But in your case if all four are 6" wheels then your slightly limited on sizes.

Here are the safe recommended sizes for that wheel size:
    195/60 14
    195/55 14
    205/60 14
    205/55 14
    215/55 14

Also keep in mind they are 14" wheels. Tire selection may be limited.

Personally I would go with 195/60 on the front and 215/55 on back. (My Opinion Only)

    Hope this helps,
    Dan

    Hey Dan and twinpilot
    thanks for the help...
? if the racetrack bore is only 5/8" wide, how does a washer which looks about a 1" outside dia. fit inside?
Does the washer have an indent or sleeve for the racetrack hole?

Yes it will also these were patented orig. by cragar i believe - also some otehrs mfg's used them -yet wernt many. The name was =UNILUG= and you should be able to get some from a speed shop or actually wheel & tire stores.Ive got 2-3 sets of wheels on my vehicles here of that type. Orig mfg . in the 70's-on. I would think the set of wheels u r lookin at would have them with them?/ Unless the seller bought new wheels & not the lug nut kits?"

Most unilug washers are universal. But measure your stud hole, width & length of your Indent "exactly" and we can help find you the correct ones...

And if you can. A couple of good closeup pic's would really help. And the wheel model if you know it.

Theres an Ebay store under LUGNUT KING, they have about everything, I have used them several times. Summit has an assortment of 14" tires in the Mickey Thompsons also I believe.

I went to the local tire store and showed them the wheels. In fact, I left them there so they could measure as needed.
The washer fits into the notch in the face of the wheel, and the lugnut fits into the hole. The washer does not go in the hole.
They were able to get the right washers and lub nuts (even left hand thread for the Dodge) after 2 tries. Make sure to test fit the washer and lugnut in the wheel to make sure the end of the nut does not extend past the face of the wheel. It would be a good idea to bring in one lug nut that fits the van so they are sure of the thread size.

Ford and Dodge musclecar or early van uses the smaller 5 x 4&1/2" pattern, so use the offset washers with the hole to the inside of the wheel to mount the Cragar S/S unilug wheels.

Tire size... you are limited because of the 6" width.

Make sure to follow tire sizes recommended for the 6" width of your wheel:

    http://customwheelsmarket.com/rimwheelwidth1.html

Here is a link that can give you dimensions for any size tire:

    http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos

For 14x6, I would say the max tire size is probably 225/60r14

Lugs nuts: For cragar S/S wheels, you want the medium (approx. 3/4" long) shank mag style lug nut. I think your econo is 1/2 x 20 thread pitch, but double check on that, I'm not a ford guy.
