Anyone know the clutch fan blade size that was used on the v8 engines in the 2nd gens? Also, what pressure radiator cap for the surge tank? Thanks for any help,Brad
,,,,,,,,,I would say the fan blade depends on the size of the shroud and the radiator hoses,,,,,,,,,you put the biggest one on that does not hit or rub. And I think the most common one is the 18" fan blade. And in case you are interested, a 6 cylinder shroud has a 19" opening,,,,,,,,,,
went out & measured mine- fan blade dia.= 15 inch -has a large type clutch also - I also have a fan blade with clutch thats a 16"=-a little-has same clutch on it - i do believe the 15 inch is the origional one .The pressure cap is a 14 lb. one - u can use also a 18 lb one yet the higher u go the higher the boiling point is raised. if ur @ sea level or near it id use the 14 lb one -Hope this helps, matt
So Twinpilot, do you have the stock 2nd Gen crossflow radiator and the V8 or 6 Cylinder type of shroud? These shrouds have a 19" opening for a 18" fan. I am thinking a person could improve on their airflow by filling that shroud opening with as much fan that will fit in there without rubbing. I think Livewire might be wanting to use a 6 cylinder shroud on his V8,,,,,,,,
Yes , I do have the V-8 shroud. The 16 " fan I have is actually a little larger 1/4"?? maybe and as i am measuring it across for diameter. it could be larger yet as the blades are not across from each other. I bought this gen2 1967 van about 1 & 1/2 years back and was totally disassembled - was a roller yet in primar & all doors, seals & glass were removed. So=== Im dealing with a disassembly that i didnt do- so im slow at all the mods & rebuild. I did get the 383 motor installed , just before the ice & snows hit us here . Will test fire in april /' may next. Currently -looking for some electric , fold down seats for the front cab area. Also if Livewire has a 6 cyl shroud?? there is a guy on ebay that is selling a alunimum shroud that is made for the v-8 vans. I almost bought that one -yet didnt need it & its still available, matt
Also- from experiences with fans & shrouds - the larger the diameter that will fit in the shroud- with about 1/2 - 3/4 " clearance is best and the fan blades need to be almost to the end of the shroud- Gives the usage like a Venturi effect.
I think Livewire is inventing a system to put in his 1st Gen,,,,,,using the 2nd Gen crossflow radiator, surge tank and some sort of shroud, and a V8 engine, so we pretty much got him covered with all the different parts available to him,,,,,,,,,,,,,and if that is the picture of your fan blade, Rich, thats for a waterpump, not for a clutch.
Denny Smith in IL has a 66 No-Door that he is putting a 454 in. He's using the cross-flow radiator & also the 6 cylinder shroud. Says it is a great fit with the 454. That is where I got my idea to use the 6 cylinder shroud. I will keep everyone posted. Brad
