Re: v8 compression
Compression pressure with engine warm and plugs removed, throttle wide open 125-155 psi Max variation is 25 psi. This is out of my '68-70 service book under the SPEC's in the back.

Re: v8 compression
How does one fix the compression problem? I am sorry for takeing over this thread but I had a simular question.
This new motor I have the compression is ( according to the guy who did the test) between 115 and 125. What can you do besides a total rebuild?

Re: v8 compression
If cylinders arnt scored-??????????? just do a very lite hone job & install new rings= but ur still into a teardown- also that compression isnt bad at all- and are u taking the word on that compression from the seller?? Check it yourself? You wont really know unless you test it yourself or teardown the motor.

Re: v8 compression

Re: v8 compression
Depends on what is leaking the compression. Rings or valves can drop a little, hole in the piston, blown head gasket or cracks in the block or head leak more.
leak down is the way to diagnose, but you will have to pull it apart in any case.

Re: v8 compression
Ill add Kent= the best comp =test will be with the engine warmed up=usually to operating temps.

Re: v8 compression
if its been sitting, put some oil in each cylinder and crank the pig over, drink a nice cold sweet tea then check it again. 115 isnt terrible change the oil and add some restore.

Re: v8 compression
remember -that restore stuff is a cleaner also will swell the front & rear main seals in time- get ready to replace them when they start leaking.

Re: v8 compression
started using it at 180k in my toyota 4 runner 3.slo its at 253k now and no leaks yet. that being said i always say there is no chemical solution for a mechanical problem, but that stuff is helping keep my yoda goin. of course its about rusted off the dang frame but the pig still lives.

Re: v8 compression
Yeah ,,115=125 on a starter roll isnt that bad, put some oil in the cylinders and see if it comes up any.
