    68 G10 Drum Sizes Empty 68 G10 Drum Sizes

Since I’m converting to front disc I figured I would toss the front drum assembly, that is everything but the drums. I thought I would just have them turned and keep them for the rear some day.

Then I checked a few parts sites and discovered that the drums measure a little different from front to back. Have any of you noticed this, or tried to use fronts on back, or vice versa? Question

The size of the rear drums depends on the rear axle ratio. The fronts are 9 1/2" X 2 1/2" and if you have the 3:73 or 4:10 rear end, the drums are the same. But most common rear end is the 3:36, which use a 9 1/2" X 2" drum, so they are different. But these drums are the same as 64-75 Nova, El Camino, Buick, Olds and other GM vehicles and are not worth saving.

So the difference is the depth, or shoe surface area.

Thanks Donivan, I knew you would have the answer.

Thats right, the brake shoe widths are what determines how wide the drum has to be. But I will surely be checking out this price for rear drums at my Auto parts store,,,,,Everyone needs good drums of equal size to let the Van stop straight and the less you have to turn them, the better they will stay cool and not overheat and glaze the lining.
