A fellow I know from Alaska (Dave?) was going to install an A-833OD in his A-100. Not sure if he got it accomplished or not. He used to have an A-108 with a 440 and a 4spd. He used cables rather than rods for the shifter.

Re: 4 speed manual Transmission
ive heard from more than one person that chevy put 4spds in some of there vans? course they no longer have the vans so theres no way i can investigate. a few years back i picked up a mid 80s dodge slant 6 with a 3spd with o.d. i was going to put it in my 64 pu,... but the reverse gear stumped me as well. never did think of useing some kinda cable. and the mid dodge was melted down to make 10 subarus.

Re: 4 speed manual Transmission
I wanna say that there was a black chop top A-100 pickup at Carlisle one year that had a 4 speed trans in it. Only saw it the one year and have never seen it since. I know that isn't much help but I would say it it is do-able.

Re: 4 speed manual Transmission
GM offered the optional 4-speed on 1968-69 vans. There were 3 shift rods. I'd assume they got locked up and caused problems. I'd like to put an S-10 5-speed overdrive in an early. Cables would probably be the only way. Unless you can get someone to sit in the back and shift for you.

Re: 4 speed manual Transmission
scottie8door posted this over on the Yahoo Group site. It's a 4 speed manual that uses the automatic shifter for reverse. IMO - If it works correctly, it'll be the cat's butt.
I can just imagine someone trying steal the van grinding some gears trying to put in reverse or revving up the engine and going nowhere if it's in drive. And that's if it was left in neutral when he parked it

Re: 4 speed manual Transmission
I have been helping a friend of mine put a 5 spd in his A! Its a floor shift and a top loader transmission. We seem to have everything working. Its basicly set up like those new cabover Iveco's. Just have to install the drive shaft and radiator hoses . Then we can test drive it!
