Re: 66 A-100 in AZ
Tire size is P275/60R-15 BFG's.
Got some more metal work done, getting closer. Still have to tackle the roof which has various dents along the edges and a few creases in the middle along with the worst of it, someone sat on the roof on both sides just above the front doors. Fixing those is going to be tough, between the areas with no real access behind and the low crown.

Here's the driver's side roughed in. Still needs work, but it's a LOT closer than it was.

I like lots of pics during a build . I'm probably guilty of over posting, but right now I'm wondering what ya going on with the brackets below the frame rails?

White if it isn't straight enough (my painter hates shooting White, and promises it will be straight enough) or 2010 Challenger Plum Crazy, which I like better than the original 70-71 color. Besides, my race car is 71 Plum Crazy (In Violet)!

Here's the only Purple A-100 picture I've found, just to give you and idea.
I have stared at it plenty already!
No stripes or any graphics. Just clean and smooth!

No, painting the torpedos or cove or whatever you want to call it makes them visually longer.
That's fine for many people but I want it to be visually short, stubby, boxy, square, whatever you want to call it. I really don't want to track down all the Sportsman trim either. I know you can just paint it two-tone, but if I were to do that, I'd want the trim too.

Re: 66 A-100 in AZ
Nope, no ghost flames either.
I had thought of a big bold two-tone flame job where the nose and to the back of the front doors is one color, and the rest is another. Kind of like this, very bold, not this pattern repeated over the body, but just bigger, so there are only 5-7 licks on the whole side.
This would break it up vertically, lending to the stubby look. However, I want to have something timeless that fits a 70s look without being stuck there.
I also don't want to get sick of it, and I tend to find little faults that I'd like changed after the job is done.

Re: 66 A-100 in AZ
Working on getting the big econoline order together and shipped. I'm taking another body & paint class in January, to complete the metal work.
Then mount and blast, then prime.
I'll probably figure out how I want the interior at that point, at least the bones of it, so I don't have to work with fresh paint while fabricating and fitting. Easier to fit patterns when the van can be tilted too!
I've been cleaning and sorting all the parts that were removed. Still need to do more there. Also have to address the wiring harness, and strip, prep and paint the motor and all the chassis parts. Trans is done. Get all the chrome done.
Then help seam seal, block and prep the body for paint. That's when the final decision on color will be made.
After paint, it will be time to order the seals and assemble!

Some more progress to show.
Got the driver side wheelwell tacked in. Still needs filler parts the compensate for the rise.

Have the passenger side tacked in now too.
One filler chunk is fabbed and in place, it just needs a bit of work on the lip curve before I finish weld it.
The 9.75 is the distance from the seam to the edge of the wheelwell at the bottom.

Re: 66 A-100 in AZ
BTW, the reason I need those filler parts on the wheelwells is because I raised them.
Stock, the front wheelwell has about an inch of flat above it. The rear has about 4.25" above it. This is very common on the older cars; the front wheelwell is taller to allow for the wheel to turn and the rear is drooped over the tire more. It is one of the visual things why most cars look good with a rake to them. If both tires are covered at the top evenly, it means the front is lower than the rear. The top of the wheelwells are both the same height from the ground. Here is an example, although the raked one is still a bit high in the front.
STOCK
RAKE
Notice also that on the raked car, the roof is level too. Another touch that really makes the car look 'right' when raked.
What I did was to raise the rear wheelwells about an inch and an eighth to thin this rear area. I hope it will look better in a way that most people won't even notice. I plan on having the van pretty low and at a rake.
