I stumbled upon a Solar Scoop today at a mom & pop shop for $8. It reminded me of the venturi vent. Does anyone know anything about this scoop? How do they install? It appears to be around the size of a 14" X 14" roof vent. The guy who owned the shop died and now the widow is running it. Said she has some 70's portholes, but has to dig them out and call me back.

Re: Solar Scoop
JUST LIKE ANY OF THEM THEY HAVE GOODS & BADS IF THE ROOF IS OUT SIDE IN THE HEAT AND SNOW ALL YEAR LONG I WOULD NOT PUT IT IN IF ITS IN A GARAGE YOU SHOULD HAVE BETTER LUCK. THE PLACTIC IS NOW 30 TO 40 YEARS OLD I WOULD LOOK INTO SOME KIND OF CONDITIONER FOR IT.I MYSELF DO NOT CUT HOLES IN MY ROOF ANY MORE. BEEN THERE DONE THAT TO MANY TIMES.

Re: Solar Scoop
A friend of mine owned a 108 Early 67 Chevy and fabricated an overhead type console over the rear doors. He then installed a grill assembly & heater blowers and vented the unit to the side door areas out through the floor. Talk about "Flow thru" ventilation! Worked quite well!

Re: Solar Scoop
you will not regret putting a vent in the van roof. fortunately for me the decision had already been made. i augmented it with a radiator fan and its really nice in a traffic jam or just to cool her down after its been sitting a while

Re: Solar Scoop
I purchased the scoop for garage wall art. I'm against cutting clean 40 year old sheetmetal for a vent, sunroof, or window. Now if the van is radically customized, or was a prior wreck or rust bucket redone to look nice, then go ahead and cut. You're not hurting an original survivor.

Re: Solar Scoop
I really hate the idea of cutting hole in the roof as well but it is a nessasary evil where ever it is hot.

Re: Solar Scoop
I am actually in the process of fixin 2 roof scoop holes cut in my 66 and one in my 75 too putting holes in the roof is never a good idea unless u live somewhere where it NEVER rains.as for ventilation get some pop out windows it will actually add VALUE instead of leaks.
