What do you know I just got a 66 van manual I bought online. Here goes.

E15 is not in the manual, But is in my 65 Manual showing as a panel van.
    F is a 170 engine.
H is the Lorain assembly plant.
864064 Tells me the van was built in July of 1966.

    Hope that helps.

The wb 90 is your wheel base.
Th e L is Dark Green.
The E150 is not in my maual. It shows E140 and E160, but no E150
    I don't have a code for body 389
I think the tanks is trans. C 01 The C is 3spd standard transmission.
The 01 is axle ratio is 3.50
The other is the rate Gross vehicle weight when loaded, meaning the vans weight and load is the max it should be loaded at. The HP is the rated horsepower of the engine.
The 25 I don't know what it means. sorry.

Guys their are several errors in the factory manuals as far as decoding goes. The 65 manual especially is loaded with mistakes. I would suggest posting your VIN to the Oldeconollines site for an accurate decode based on years of compiling real factual info from VINS and info provided by owners over the years. Mark Mehlbaum has an updated list and is happy to assist with any decode. This info was collected over the past 30 years or so.

    Any help with decode
    E14SH386409
    090 M E143 89A
    A 02
    3600 79
    4000 72.
Looks like 144 six?? But the motor has 5 freeze plugs...Many sat the 5 plug motor is a 200??? When I did the clutch the tranny was marked in junk yard blue"65 ford mustang H.D. So do the 200'S have 5 plugs. Also I have been buying parts for a 170 and so far all parts have worked. So I am wondering if it was changed to a 200 by the P.O. It also has a 9 inch rear with I think 4to1 gears. Good on the highway but hard to light up the tires!!

Thanks for any help in advance,
    Johnny

Probably a stock4:oo to 1 or 4:11 I ll get a decode. The 25 in the previous VIN is the district it was ordered in like maybe Louisville or L.A. etc.

Its been discussed many times before that "some" 170's also had 5 just like the 200. Im just reporting what I ve heard for years on the net. This is not personal experience.

I thought that was the other way around Tim. I've heard some early 200's had three freeze plugs. I have a 65 200 here and it has five plugs and the single bolt pattern bell housing. My 66 200 has five plugs and the dual bolt pattern bell. The differences in the Ford engines get real confusing. I don't see how anybody can keep up with it. LOL. When I messed with Chevies everything was much simplier. I'm getting a headache!

Duane, I will be the first to admit I could be mistaken. You may be right with it being the other way around. I just remember there being a lot of confusion over the 2 engines and how to identify them. Im not sayin,Im just sayin.

Well everybody knows I'm no expert on anything. I know just enough to get me in trouble. LOL. Seems the story I heard was early 200's had the same main bearings as the 170's but the added horse power required the additional mains be added to the block casting. That's when the five plugs came into the picture. More plugs because of more bearing saddles.
