I will be getting my new knee braces next week. The VA just called and told me to pick them up next Tuesday. They were custom made for both knees. The sad part is they cost the VA over $1500.00 each. I think it would be cheaper in the long run to just operate on my knees since I also get shots in each knee that costs $900.00 each on a regular basis.

Re: I am stoked
thats great news mike, should make getting around easier. those shots are something else. when i had my first shot she said its going to hurt so i will go on three lets count together she said wha and jammed that needle in my leg, i almost soiled my shorts the table and her. well i locked my knee up and we had to wait for it to relax before she could get that huge needle out, that was the first and only injection i had my knee scoped and somewhat repaired two weeks later.
God Bless you sir and thankyou for fighting for the freedom i enjoy every day!

Re: I am stoked
Although I am a little younger than you I to have bad knees from my baseball days a long time ago. I've had 6 operations to repair different things and it's left me without cartilage in both. I've had a series of shoots in both with what I call WD40 treatment..actually a synthetic gell and it works for 3-4 months or so. Replacement is my only option but with my present health plan it's about $8000 plus a month off of work so I grin an bear it daily. The replacements work so if you can somehow get them you wouldn't regret it. I wore braces all the time so hopefully they will give you some relief. I know what you must be going though so good luck.

Re: I am stoked
Thanks everyone. I have had braces for years but a few months ago they were stolen out of my truck so I had to get new one. The VA won't rebuild my knees till I am 65. I have had 18 operations on my my right knee alone and was in a wheel chair for almost seven years. I have a lot of nerve and muscle damage in both legs as well due to the muscles on the front of both thighs being blown off leaving about 7" of bone exposed on both thighs. My right thigh also had a deep gash going from my knee to hip. Shrapnel went through my knee in several places. Back in the 70s they said I would never walk again and that just made me more determined to get out of that damned chair.

I've never met you but you are now an inspiration to me. What you went through doesn't compare to any of my problems. I'd like to get my hands on the thief...

Re: I am stoked
Yeah he stole the braces, my cane and my handicap parking placard. The braces were in a travel bag so he probably did not know what he was stealing till he opened it later.G-Man wrote:I believe you, but can't believe some low life would steal something like that. Re: I am stoked
got them today. I thought they were going to be made out of metal but they are all carbon fiber and very light. Any part that touches the skin is covered with a high quality chamois. Much nicer than the last pair.

I was in special operations in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. Wounded four time and now have a 100% disability rating. My stepfather was a POW in Nazi Germany for most of the war. My father was at Normandy, his father fought in ww1, his father was at San Juan Hill, his father was at the little big horn and his father rode with General Quantrill in the cival war. my family goes back to the Revolutionary war and has had one or more members fight in every war since then. I have six cousins on the Vietnam Memorial Wall. Simply put you could say we are just a bunch of hard core patriots. My wifes father was at Normandy, a battle was fought on her families farm in the civil war and one of her ancestors was married to Davy Crockett. Both of her brothers served and one of them is now a retired Sargent major. She is descended from Mary Queen of Scotts, King Henry, King George Queen Elizabeth, and the last Czar of Russia, Czar Nicholas. Her family owns a castle in Scotland and an island off of Scotland called Mull Island.
