Hey everyone, I made the deal on a new 292 crate motor. I will be installing it in my 64 chevy soon. I know these engines are about 1.5" higher than the stock sixer, so if anyone has been down this road before, I'd like to know what exactly you did to take care of all the modifications needed to perform this swap.

Kooky I didn't do the swap myself but my 67 has a 292 in it. The passenger side motor mount on the 292 is going to be forward from where the one is on the other I6's. To solve the problem who ever did mine just bolted a piece of 1/4" plate to the cross member where the motor mount usually bolts and let it extend forward enough to bolt the mount for the 292 to the plate. I've had it for about 5 years now with no problems. No problem with the extra height in the 2nd gen but not sure about a 1st gen. I don't know why they did it but you'll see when you get the 292 that the pass side motor mount and the fuel pump location are just opposite as compared to the other I6's. Should be an easy swap for the motors.
Unless your intent on staying with a column shifter for the automatic trans I'd take a look at Billski's shifter he installed for the 200-4r that he put in his 1st gen. Here's the link to the post about his swap.
