Hello every one. My name is Tyler Bender. I'm from Lindenwold new jersey. I have a 69 chevy g10 with a stock 3 speed straight 6. I have been thinking about swapping my 6 cylinder with my 350 8 cylinder out of my 76 camaro. I wanted to know if there is a conversion kit somewhere for this job, or if one is even needed. Thanks.

Re: 69 chevy g20 engine swap
The 350 was optional, I've seen a few vans at different shows who changed from a v6 to a v8. I was told that some fabrications had to be done to fit the engine. Also I will be changing to an auto trans, the shifter will have to be relocated from the column.

Those engines came in the Chevy vans,,,,,no modifications,,,,transmission shifter was on the column,,,,,,,the TH 350 automatic transmissions had this mount bolted on the tail section to hang from the floor like all the rest of the Chevy/GMC transmissions,,,,,people now use the 700R4 or 2004R overdrive transmissions with a crossmember added under it usually,,,,,,,

Re: 69 chevy g20 engine swap
Like Don Said The engine will fit right in and the trans will have to have a cross member fabricated unless you find an original TH350.
I prefer the 700R4 but one advantage to the 200R4 is it is the same length as the TH350 so the drive shaft will be the correct length and not need to be modified.

You have to upgrade the radiator. The original down flow L6 radiator is not going to cut it. The crossflow setup that Don pictured is hard to find. One option for guys going from L6 to v8 is to use the aluminum cougar radiator with GM inlets. One of our local club members is running this radiator is his 67 in place of the down flow and it fits and works nicely.

Re: 69 chevy g20 engine swap
Look @ ebay = radiators that fit the dodge & chrysler vehicles-as they have chev type inlets / outlets & have side brackets for mounting. 3 rows best & some even sell shrouds to fit them !! Ive bought 2 last year for around 185-220.00

Hey guys, I was wondering if using the TH 350 trans from my camaro would work for this project, rather than spending money for another trans.

Re: 69 chevy g20 engine swap
i don't think there is such a thing as a REAL van TH350 transmission,,,,,they just took a normal TH350 and bolted the hanger ring on it and slapped it in a van,,,,,,but they do come in different lengths which will affect driveshaft lengths,,,,, this is a factory set up,,,,,,and I will never run out of transmissions for my van......

It will work, if you make it work… if you can cut and weld and fabricate, you can rig up something.
The original van th350 hangers like Don posted are very rare and hard to find. There is one guy Gotavan Dan (Dan Updike) who cast some replicas out of aluminum. Last I heard he still has some for sale. You still have to drill the big hole for the bushing and install the bushing. Dan is really busy so he doesn't often post here. I think I have his address here. You can try writing him. PM me if you want it.

The ones Dan has had done are made from cast iron. I have an aluminum prototype he cast , just haven't had a good candidate to try it in. Not sure how tough it would be.

Oh cool.. even better. I did not know he was casting them out of iron.
To the Original Poster, If you want a replica th350 hanger, you might contact Digz for Dan Updike's contact info. He may have an email or phone number for him. I only have his address.
