    1st series & 2nd series doors? Empty 1st series & 2nd series doors?

Post by Guest Sun Jan 24, 2010 2:55 pm

I'm thinking about lookin for a new side door (either with a window, or without) rather than welding up the window hole that was added before I got the van. Is there a difference in 1st & 2nd series side doors? For what it's worth, I have a '64. Here's a pic of what I'm gonna get rid of....

I'm just trying to get an idea of what years to be on the look out for. Any and all help is appreciated!

That is a fake window,,,,,someone just cut a hole in your solid door and put a piece of glass in there,,,,,,don't get rid of that door,,,,it is worth something,,,,,it would be REAL EASY to just cut a piece of metal and weld it back in the hole,,,,,,ask a body shop what they would charge or do it yourself,,,,,,,

I have a buddy that can do it...and is going to do the window on the driver's side. I just thought it would make life easier to get a solid door or a door with a factory window. I do like the added visibility it adds, as a driver of these rolling blind spots. Laughing After I solve the issue, I could always sell my door and recoup some of the cash I spend on the new door. this way will just hours and hours of welding, grinding, filling and sanding..... Wink

Motorhead....I can understand why the previous owner did it. He used it as a work van, and most likely wanted better visuals while driving the van, and didn't care about how it looked. I figure the driver's side will MUCH better as clean as possible...better for lettering or paint effects. I'll be lookin for a replacement door, but if I can't find one, I'm just gonna fill mine in....

Barnett like Don said don't get rid of that door. The solid doors are real hard to find and on the ones with the stock windows the windows are inset and would be a lot harder to fill.

I think for $250 I'll just keep my present door & fill my lame window hole. Wink Seriously, though....I will either fill mine or find a factory window door or a solid-window-less door. (no way in hell I'll spend a couple hundred on a door, though... I could use that coin for so many other van related things!)

Well...at the very least, I know I'm NOT gonna pay huge bucks for a door! Laughing The info is definitely helpful, though....I won't get screwed outta my door or bypass a good replacement if I find one for cheap! The bummer is, I wonder how many good parts vans I passed up when I didn't have mine?! I know a couple of junkyards I'm gonna hit up...maybe I'll even hit one tomorrow!!

    thanks again for the help!

I doubt that the hinges and their pins are any good on any van anymore,,,,,they wear out over the years,,,,,,the best thing is to drill the hinges out oversize and put bigger, better Chrysler pins and bushings from Napa in them...........they come out better than new........
