    Replacement Headlight Empty Replacement Headlight

    Post by Guest Thu Jan 21, 2010 9:27 am

    Hey Guys,

    My front headlight (running) went out. The brights still work.

    Was wondering if anyone knew where to get a replacement headlight, as I removed the headlight and didn't see a replaceable bulb...

    Thanks in Advance

    Time for a old school lesson, back in our day you bought the whole headlight every time. What you have is a 7" sealed beam headlight. They can be had at any parts store.

    My '67 VW had sealed beam lights from the factory. I replaced them with Hella H4 Halogen lights. I've done the same to Skooby, it makes a huge difference. Velma is still sealed beam but I'm planning to convert her lights this spring. There are a bunch of 7" round kits out there, as the Jeeps use them as well.

    I went to kragen with this in hand " http://www.quadratec.com/products/97000_300.htm " and asked if it was a 7" sealed beam headlight. They told me it wouldn't work in my car, but I think they're just going by the computer.

    Something like this

    droo66 I didn't take it that way, so don't worry about it

    On the headlights I have heard of guys converting theres to the bulb style, but sure they had to mod the headlight buckets so they would work. So maybe that why they are not listed for our vans

    The Hella bulbs that I used have a normal 3 prong base and didn't require any modification to the buckets. Plug them in and you're done.

    I don't know the exact part number, as I had an extra set on hand already from my VW.

    Your best bet is to pull out one of the old ones and compare the depth of the bulb and the plug type to make sure it's a match.

    Not sure if my part numbers are the same as American supplier numbers, but I have a set of new gen Hella headlamps for my Pickup;

    HE1058 is the insert, and you can fit any H4 lamp in side - but be sure to use relays to get maximum performance.

    This headlamp also has a fitting for the park lamp, as I will be removing the park lamp from my turn signal fitting.
