Re: 1ST GEN REPLACEMENT SEATS
I've heard Fiero, Miata, and Prelude, seats work well in the Chevy's. I don't know that there are any that line right up to the brackets though.

Re: 1ST GEN REPLACEMENT SEATS
celebrity , miata, sunbird,
fiero (some models have bose speakers in the recaro seats)
they are probly the top ones i have seen "fit" and be comfy
most honda seats especially accord are too wide for the pass side
i have late 80's subaru ones in my 65 , they fit ,feel and look good
and took not much for mounting modifications
one thing i noticed if you get them from a 4dr model the seats recline almost flat 2dr ones flip forward but usually do not recline as far as 4dr seats

Re: 1ST GEN REPLACEMENT SEATS
i had zero space problem issues using 914 seats in my chop
and the subaru seats in my current 65 fit awesome
height is also an issue when choosing seats and mounting them
this 65 came with highback late 70's z-28 seats and ya woulda been bouncing your head against the roof if i kept em in there

Re: 1ST GEN REPLACEMENT SEATS
My seat posts are missing. The previous owner fabricated wood blocks to support the side of each seat that is not resting on the tire well. They are very wobbly. Any suggestions?

Re: 1ST GEN REPLACEMENT SEATS
Katiem: The stack 65 seats had a stand made of tubing for the driver seat and the pasanger side had "L" brackets spot welded to the dog house.
I dont see any reason why you can't copy what was don on the passanger side. Get some wide enough angle iron, b probobly 3X3X 3/32" thick and bolt that to the dog house.
Reading feelings presumed to be built into text? Somebody will have to teach me how to imagine that. I use capitals alot when my "Caps Lock" key gets accidently pushed and I don't see it and I'm too lazy to change it all back.

Re: 1ST GEN REPLACEMENT SEATS
Now that you say it, I see that the drivers side has the actual stock tubing. It is the passenger's side that has a wooden post.
G-man: You have stock tubing that I could use for the passenger's side?

Re: 1ST GEN REPLACEMENT SEATS
I think the vans that originally came with the folding canvas passanger seat or no passanger seat did not get the brackets spot welded to the dog house.
My 65 had the two front seats when ordered new and it had the tube on the drivers side and welded brackets on the passenger side.
You can see them here
You can see one and almost the other bracket on the left in this picture

I also saw a pair of old 66 style mustang buckets a guy had mounted in an econo pickup and they looked great in the picture..plus they fold forward.....AND...hey look harldy any caps

Cavalier Seats
You may find this hard to believe but Donivan has other vehicles besides his 1st Gen Chevy Van. He has a nice 88 Chevy Cavalier Convertible Z24 (same basic body as the Pontiac Sunbird) and he suggested testing a seat from it in my 1st Gen. So he dropped off the passenger seat and I tried in on my passenger side. The width is perfect, about as wide as it could be and still clear the doghouse lid. And with a little flattening of the metal feet it would sit fairly low on the wheel well. Here are some photos.
The perspective in this photo makes the seat look larger than it really is, in comparison to the driver's seat.

Re: 1ST GEN REPLACEMENT SEATS
Here's my '64 with fiero seats in it. Just minor mods were required to mount them in the van. It was pretty easy to do. I can write a detailed description for installing them for anyone who needs it. For the passenger side, I used a spare driver's side bracket (like the one pictured above by G-Man in this thread) and bent it as necessary to fit the passenger side.
