I need to find sheet metal screws similar to the ones here. This one I happened to find in a can of odds and ends, and isn't exactly what I need, but would do (needs to be longer though). 30 years ago I could walk into a van customizing shop and buy a box of 100 screws that had the recessed washer already attached. This one is flat, but hopefully you might know what I'm referring to. I would prefer them to be anodized black, but I could paint them if need be. I've been to Home Depot and two Mom and Pop hardware stores, but so far no luck. I know they can't be that hard to find. Any suggestions?

You might try Steelies or Restoration Specialists for those screws. They both have an good choice.

You can get them in small quantities in Auto Zone or other autoparts chains, they are called Trim Screws I think. They come in black and chrome. I also seem to remember that you can get them in bulk from JC Whitney

"I also seem to remember that you can get them in bulk from JC Whitney"
They have something similar (and trim screws is the correct term I guess) but it seems that they only offer them in mixed bag orders - where you get a sampling of all kinds of screws.
I'll have to check out all the auto parts stores. Those self tapping screws that Don posted are handy little devils, and although I hadn't seen the kind he pictures they would certainly work for my needs.
Thanks guys!

Re: Need source for trim screws
a perfect match for them is holding the dash panels in every dodge on the road. go to any pic a part with a #2 phillips and start removing them. whenever i go into the local yard i get as many as possible.
