the girlfriend and i went on a van hunt today when she got home from work, i was about 4 beers deep and excited to find a bronze/white econoline i'd heard about on a local sidestreet. we're putzing down an avenue close to where the van was supposed to be, and she totally spots an awesome red 8-door! the owner was home, he told me an amazing story about how he got it from the original owner. the total cost to him? buy and install an exterior door on the elderly gentleman's house! WTF!?

He says he has seen another and I got the Stove/cooler/sink/table out of it and they look factory. But it looks like it has not run in 20 years, so we will see more of it in the future.........

Seems like I never have my camera..

This weekend while trucking my boy over to his football game I saw a 65 or 66 van sitting with '4 SALE' on the window.

I went back and talked to the guy, the 230 in it was rebuilt in 86, and its been sitting since. He kept planning on lowering it, but never got around to it, now he needs the space in his shop.

It's a Sport-van with the Yamahauler conversion, but then a little ragged. The step that drops down on the side is still there, and an aftermarket A/C is installed. Looks to be part of the conversion. All A/C stuff is there except the rooftop condenser, but I found an old Ford about 15 miles from there with the rooftop condenser.

The body is in good shape, little pin-holes through the drivers and passengers floor, but that's the worst of it. All the chrome is still on it too.

It needs a lot of work, but I'm really surprised that so much is there, and in a condition where it can be easily restored.

In the beginning he said he wanted $700 for it, by the time I got out of there he said $500.

He also said he has a 64 that belonged to his dad, he considered it a parts van, but all he said was wrong with it was someone tore the brakes down to the backing plates and never put them back together. But he said the 64 was an automatic, so maybe I can score that one too, then convert the 65 to automatic.

I'm stoked and ready to go get it, but the wife says some other projects must be done first.

The guy also does some welding, I'm going to go over and get some welding done, talk to him a little more, get some pics.

Meanwhile I will be knocking out a few projects out in record time..
