Has anyone found a replacement for the bushings on the accelorator pedal or is that something that has to be made?

My 68 just has a flat piece of plastic around the shaft, the plastic looks a lot like those two pieces. I just covered mine with grease and put it back together.

Well Scott, if I had a Chevy Van that needed accelerator shaft bushings, I think I would check this website and search for SLEEVE BEARINGS and see if any bronze or nylon bushings would work. ,,,,,,,,,,

Thanks for the info Don !!! Mine were so worn I didn't try to measure them. For now I just did what Scott did, cleaned everything up and lubricated it real good.

The closest one I found on McMaster was only .625 OD. That would probably still be better than the worn out ones that are there now.

I just replaced the nylon bushings with brass, took some old fittings and turned them on lathe.

This looks like the one to me,,,,,,Length and ID are the same,,,,you put a nut and bolt through the bushing, chuck it in a drill, remove .006 off it with a file until it fits into your housing,,,,,,,,,,

Great job!!! I felt sure that Don would have a fix but Greyfox knowing that they are used on Vettes makes you think that they will be around for awhile. Seriously if it weren't for the collection of vanners mind on the internet I would of had to give up on these obsolete old vans.

Accelorator pedal rebuild Empty White lithium grease...

    Post by ChevyVanMan1 Tue Oct 20, 2009 7:44 am

clearly I have a fetish for white lithium grease. However, I recommend it highly when lubing such an assembly that mixes metal with plastic or rubber bushings. WLG will not dissolve the polymers over time like regular grease will and it pretty good with shedding water. Just my 2 cents. Also, those shifter grommets are still available.
When I get back to my regular computer I will try to look them up.

    Happy motoring, Mark

How much pedal do you have?

My pedal moves about an inch and a half before hitting the floor, but the Carb could open much more.

I can't push the linkage forward because it hits the Master Cylinder, so I've been thinking about trying to extend the linkage where it connects to the pedal shaft underneath, that would raise the pedal inside. The linkage has plenty of room to move back farther, but the pedal bottoms out on the floor.

How high is your pedal from the floor?

If you cant adjust it out, then maybe the grommets are worn out or the rods have grooves cut into them,,,,,sometimes that bellcrank on the doghouse comes loose,,,,,,,,,

Here is the shot of the rod used on a 2nd Gen.

I placed a green and red arrow where the extra bend is located. When you release the pedal the rod moves forward to about 1/4" from hitting the Master Cylinder next to the RED arrow.

So the gas pedal is not pulling the throttle plate all the way open,,,,,,,how about step on the gas pedal and try move the linkage at the carb by hand and see if you can get more opening of the throttle plate. Also see if there are other holes in the linkage that will allow you to change the fulcrum point of the system.....
