im afraid the rust around the windshield is not something i can repair.im thinking about taking out the orignal v8/automatic,putting it in the 69 108 and turning the camper van into a camper trailer to pull behind.i probably wont need the front doors which are near perfect,or things like dash, front end parts, etc.any feedback or is this crazy talk?

Hows the rest of the van? if it's good, I would cut out your bad section and find a replacement windshield opening from another van in worse shape.

Sonny, If the rest of the van is pretty solid and you are not in a rush. You might consider. Parking it and play the waiting game. One will show up in time.

Re: to part out,or not to part out
Kill the rust with a rust neutralizer. Then repair with Glass.
Or if too thin and rotten under the paint around exposed area.
Cut out..........build it out custom & FLAT. Go to Auto Glass guys and have CUSTOM FLAT GLASS windscreen made & installed.
One of a kind custom job then.
Maybe start measuring Chevy truck windscreen areas.......see if any can be made to fit the hole.
You have all kinds of custom options open to you if the rest of van is solid.
I mean..............how many vans have you seen with custom grills and gull-wing doors and all kinds of trick shit.
Don't give up & you may end up with something way cooler than "the stock look".

Re: to part out,or not to part out
That van is toast. That windshield rust is way too far gone and it would be one helluva job to fix that. I'd part it out... pull all the good parts and scrap the rest. IMHO that van is too far gone to be saved. You already have a good van, so use this as a V8 donor van and install all the best parts on your 69 108.
You just can't save 'em all and be real... you can only drive one at a time anyway. We need parts vans to donate their parts so that other vans may live on. But that's just my opinion.
I've built several cars/trucks/jeeps/vans etc. and it always makes it so much easier when you have a parts vehicle or two.
Lots of people need parts off that thing. You'll have fun while you part it out, you can make a little money and help other vanners too. Looks like its got good stock seats and plenty of other goodies there.
Your camper trailer idea is kind of cool too.

Re: to part out,or not to part out
im with you kookykrispy.it was a factory conversion in 67 and i gutted it.i saved all the hardware and appliances and was going to redo it with new material and keep the old hardware for that retro look.also i wouldnt having that v8/auto in the 69 to help pull it.its gonna be pretty heavy.not sure where id saw it off it at though, the topper kinda comes in play.ill post a side view and see what you guys think.

Re: to part out,or not to part out
I'd either bite the bullet and pay the shipping from AZ for just the window frame, or go with a custom flat glass by pulling the window rail from something else.
Sure it would be a big job, but you're obviously capable of doing it if you know how to convert it into a trailer.
Just really boils down to how bad you want it.
