second gen cluster bezel Empty second gen cluster bezel

Post by AzDon Sat May 09, 2020 8:16 am

It's common knowledge that the second gen gauge cluster was lifted directly from the 62-65 Nova parts bin....
A seller on another forum told me that the bezel is van specific and I'm not sure....
I'm wondering if anybody here can verify from first-hand knowledge if the Nova bezels fit our vans and if they are universal from 62-65 or "year specific" (?)
I bought an Intellitronix digital cluster and planned to buy a chrome Nova repop bezel, but now I'm not sure....

I have seen complete Nova clusters at swap meets. Everything appears to be the same EXCEPT the bezel. If you do a (internet) search for 1965 Nova dash pictures, you will see a stamped bump contour of the dash that intersects the horizon of the cluster (different than our vans). The Nova specific bezel is shaped (from a side view) to straddle that dash contour.

So....., what you are saying is that the back side of a nova bezel Doesn't fit a flat dash (?) Or is it "inset" into a contour? Are any exposed fastener holes the same? Could it be carefully modified to fit?

Hmmmm, so the bezel insets the cluster...and I guess all four years are like that (?)….. I guess the bezel for my new cluster will be the stock silver deal....

Yes, All four years...that I'm aware of. If you are out junkin at yards, the P series trucks from the same era use the same bezels as our vans....if you need an extra one to goof around with for modding or plating.

Are these bezels metal or plastic?.... "P" series is step vans, right?..... I was wrong about the nova deal on these bezels, but still can't endorse that seller's claim of "rareness" for his van bezel because it would be rare for anybody to actually need one.... It's not like it's a part that wears out or gets broken...

I got a spare dash that's got a broken ring, but I wouldn't pay high $$ for one.
