Turn Signal Assembly Conversion / Upgrade Empty Turn Signal Assembly Conversion / Upgrade

Post by Zonk 1/75 Sun Nov 26, 2017 9:58 am

For some time now I have struggled through comparisons of 1961 and 1967 wiring diagrams (and hands on under the dash) in an attempt to upgrade from my turn signal assembly to the Gen II w/ hazard (8 wire) one. Sure wish Ford would have stuck with the same wire colors when it transitioned……….

When I removed the old signal assembly I cut the harness midway in hopes that I could just match up wires from the new assembly to the old ones that are already attached where they should belong. It is not that simple…….

Old Skool provided me with the following :

CONVERSION WIRING FOR GENII TURN SIGNAL ASSMEBLY USING TRAILER LIGHT DUAL PRONG PIGTAILS

    BLUE CONNECTION
Connect green/white stripe wire to male end of plug
Connect white/blue stripe wire to female end of plug
Put large diameter BLUE shrink tube over plug end to mark

    RED CONNECTION
Connect solid blue wire to male end of plug
Connect red/black stripe to female end of plug
Put large diameter RED shrink tube over plug end to mark

    BLACK CONNECTION
Connect yellow/brown stripe wire to male end of plug
Connect solid green wire to female end of plug
Leave BLACK color on end plug

Dark blue/yellow stripe is single male plug end for horn
White/red stripe wire goes to one side of the 2nd flasher, fuse and connect power source to flashers 2nd electrical prong

There are many different options in ”trailer dual prong pig tails” and I am not sure what to do with the BLUE, RED and BLACK pig tails if I were able to complete the above configuration.

Considering the lack of availability of the old turn switch assemblies I have to assume that somebody here has done this conversion / upgrade successfully……

I am hoping that somebody has images, or better yet, a list detailing what turn signal assembly wire attaches where.

I appreciate any input and this info might be useful to other old E series owners also.

    Thanks!

Thank you for posting that I gave you that,,, nice to see ,,,,,

That wiring code I gave above ,, specifically states either of the following two,,, MALE or FEMALE,,,,, I also specifically,,,, said to use matching shrink tubing on each connector that you do so it would automatcially plug into its correct other colored plug,,,,,I did that on purpose so that this would be harder to happen for someone to not understand it???? LOL
SO,, if you purchase a double prong connector that looks exactly like our colored two prong connectors but is colored black it will have a male and a female connector on it. SO,, for example for the blue color,, do exactly as it says,,,, by connecting the correct colored wire that it says to the male or the female connector that it says, it will automatically plug into your harness with the correct wire going to the correct connector.......
THE OTHER way that I do it, is that I cut off the early turn units wire loom all the way at the top, and then simply splice the wires exactly the same that is in the directions given.. hope that helps you..

    Pretty simple,,

" There are many different options in ”trailer dual prong pig tails” and I am not sure what to do with the BLUE, RED and BLACK pig tails if I were able to complete the above configuration. "

Use black two prong connectors for all of them or use any color two prong connectors that you can find, who cares what color they are, you are going to mark them the color you want them to be with the colored shrink tubing,,,,, Make a black one into a blue one, so on, so on, so on,,,,regardless of the color of the plug, its the female or the male end to the correct colored wire that matters,,,,,

Am I reading this wrong or is it that you cannot find the three connectors in your harness under the gauges?? I am getting confused as to how there can be an issue??? They are in the harness and there will also be a single wire for the horn also
