I was able to carefully bend the sender tube straight again (seems to be a softer metal, maybe copper?). Got the tank attached again and everything FINALLY seems to be working. Gas tank is nice and sung, fuel gauge is reading correctly and the van starts like a champ. And it only took 3 gas tanks, 2 senders and dropping the tank 6 times! Thanks all for the info and advice.
