Glad to be a part of this site 20150211

Hi there been lurking for some time,
Hope the picture works. Im new and this is my new girl. Shes in pretty good shape but is in need of a lot of TLC. The body and drivetrain is very nice but the interior is another deal. My main thing is I want a newer stlye carb (it has the older model holley 390), an electronic igintion and it dosent have a parking brake so I really need to take care of that since it is a three speed. Long time ago this used to be a show vehicle, theres still signs of chrome on the axles, leafs, and misc other parts. It has been a driver for atleast the last 10 years. I guess an emergeny brake was just not needed before. So any ideas about the emergency brake. I'm not stuck on stock and I understand along with most other things for these vans stock is hard to come by. I am a machinist by trade and I do love to fab things so with that said your thought or ideas would be great.

    Thanks, Nick

On the E brake, if there isn't anything to work with, try looking at a van with one intact. From there you should be able to figure a way to make one. I just remade one on my E-100 after going for 4 years without. In the meantime just remember to leave it in gear when you park, or carry a chock with you.

Hey welcome to vintage vans!!! I might be able to help you out. I have some e brake stuff from a first gen Chevy. You could probably adapt it to you dodge or make it work. The system is fairly simple. Also, I have several carbs if you're looking to upgrade. I work on carbs and rebuild/repair them as a hobby. I might even be interested in your old carb as a core.

Thanks again. I havent had a bunch of time to really get things checked out due to life. You know the kids the wife etc etc... I dont think theres anything left of the ebrake system honestly. The rear end does seem to be original as far as I can see. Again Im open to retrofiting and all that but if bolt in stuff is availible for a reasonable price that would be cool too. As for the carb the one thats on there is a 6299 and from researching it it's no longer made but kits are availible to rebuild. I think I just want to upgrade to a 8007 but if anyone has a better idea that dosent cost a arm and a leg (budget you know) I'll take it all in. The PO has it running real rich and I think that its been tinkered with so much that it may be best to start over. That and the old gas needs to be drianed and flushed out before I go much further.

Oh yeah, thats the weirdo 390cfm with the reverse power valve. I can see why you don't want to mess with that particular carb. I have several carbs, both holley and edelbrock/carter afb but they are all 600 cfm. You probably want to stay small. Have you considered a 2 barrel holley, like a 350cfm or 500cfm? Maybe even an autolite 2100?

I'm still thinking the new 390. This engine sounds pretty crisp when you rev it up but is really cold blooded and idles like crap. Plus it already has the 4 bbl intake and the headers so I'm leaning towards the 8007 390. Thanks for the input, Nick

The 8007 is a great carb for smaller displacement engines, but its hard to come by.

Did you see this auction on eBay?  If you're set on the 8007, this is still spendy, but maybe you could save a little bit compared to retail.

Hey kooky thanks for redirecting my attention to that carb on ebay. I saw it earlier in the auction but dismissed it thinking it would end too high. Well I'm the new owner, with shipping I saved over a hundred bucks. It should be here by next Tuesday. My wife was nice enough to bid for me while I was busy so props to her also. Now I'm looking into the gm hei ignition conversion which I already have the module in the garage from my chevelle I owned years ago. Now that I've saved a little I just have to tackle getting all the parts for the e-brake. I'll have to take the rear drums off to see what might be missing in there, one thing I'd really like to find is a nos parking brake lever. I may have to post that down in the wanted section. Thanks again!  Nick

Sweet van! I have made adapter plates in the past to change a four bl intake to two bl. The last one I did was for a slant six in a 64 a100 pickup. I just use a two bl off a 318. Works great. Also on the Ebrake cables there's a place called Inline Tube down south that reproduces ebrake cables in stainless. I havn,t delt with them personally. What i did see looked good.

Thanks Scottie. It looks like the rear cables were cut right at the backing plates at quick glance. I'm thinking the rest is gone also but I need to crawl under and look. Its been a bit cold out and Im waiting for a small heat wave so I don't have to lay on the freezing concrete in the garage. I do konw the parking brake lever is also missing. I'll let you know what I find in the coming days. Thank you for your help.
