New Kick Panel for 1st Gens - Page 5 Empty Plenum Board Shipping

Post by gfleduc Sat Dec 02, 2017 2:03 pm

So the only reason for this post is so you can have you thoughts ready on shipping.

I am using the "Plenum Board" title because it makes a nice unique search word.

Board cost should be under $80 - depending on volume.

Okay - I expect to go to production soon

Whole piece shipping traditional carriers (FedEx/UPS) ~ $100
Whole piece shipping Bus ~ $65
Folded to a creased or hand cut to two pieces ~ $40
To cut cost I will combine orders if you have a buddy in your area.

Didn't we have a vanner who did cross country runs?

I am very open to other suggestions - This will plan to be a one time project for me.

Please still hold off on I want one comments - I need to set up some sort of tabulation to keep track of course. Primarily I hope to use PayPal

    Hi Gang,
This may accommodate some of you.  Two paths were being taken - An ABS panel and a cardboard insulated  panel.  As it stands now the cardboard construction is on hold and possibly will not be pursued. The test parts damage easily & more significantly the vendor is not readily available to cut the parts (Pricing on the cardboard was what was posted earlier).  It is worthy to note VANagain reports that the cardboard type panel is already showing signs of wear on his first piece installation.  So ABS maybe a preferred material choice

The sure thing is the ABS vendor is ready to produce parts.  What is lined up is a basic, one piece, 1/4" thick, black ABS panel; no insulation.

Pricing if the club only wanted one part $255 plus $50 shipping & handling
Quantity ten, price is $110 each plus $50 shipping & handling.

San Diego local pick-up is available.

VANagain is going to see if he can get one cut for review & photo.  At a minimum a materiel sample showing the panel characteristics.

Unknown yet is if ABS vendor can cut with insulation added - regardless that would increase the cost.

So the question is, is there interest in the basic ABS panel? One possible option would be to make it two pieces if there was a significant desire for that option.

If you want to COMMIT to buying the said ABS panel, (assume the quantity ten pricing) then email me at gfleduc@hotmail.com & I will tally the count & collect to make an order.  When you email me put "Plenum Panel" in the subject line so I can filter for it.  I will plan for the end of the month to put an order.  I would expect that is enough time for all to review this post & make a determination.

FWIW: Plenum is the part name GM used in their parts catalog.

    Otherwise leave comments here.

    Vendor (REM)  feed back

"... The part number is (CTK-FWP-054) since this is a new part most of our vendors may not be aware of it so it would be ok to have them call us and we may direct them to a vendor or sell to them ourselves."

Well, whaddaya know! Here is a kick panel (plenum panel) made for 1st Gen Chevy vans. I don't know anything about it, how accurate it is, what it's made of, but I figured I'd post it here since I never came up with a way to make mine out of one piece like this. Looks like it has the appropriate yellow insulation on the back. It's on this eBay store called MuscleManiac Car Parts.

He sells mats and and other "soft goods" for all kinds of vehicles. Somewhere he says, if you don't see what you're looking for, send him a template and he'll make it. Maybe someone sent him my template!

99% OF OUR PARTS ARE MADE TO ORDER, SO YOU HAVE THE CONFIDENCE TO KNOW THAT THEY WERE NOT SITTING OUT IN THE WEATHER, SUN AND RAIN AT A CAR SHOW OR STOCKED ON A SHELF FOR YEARS COLLECTING DUST AND DAMAGES. WE HANDLE OVER 30,000 SOFT CAR PARTS
