Did Ford make a key lock for the drivers side door in the 1961 Ford Econoline PU? My truck doesn't have a key hole in the drivers door.

I don't think they did. As a matter of fact my 66 Van doesn't have one on the driver's door either which leads me to believe someone probably swapped out a rusty door for a good 61 van door. While we're on the subject, how difficult is it to put a lock on a driver's door that doesn't already have one?

In 61 the key lock was an option. It used the same lock as all other Econolines. You just have to cut a hole in the door. Drill a small hole and use a file to get the correct shape.

This subject has come up before with some buddies of mine. One of them got an old '49 Chevy truck with no door lock on the drivers side. After some discussion I brought up how in old movies and tv shows people used to commonly get in cars (parked on the street) on the passenger side and slide across to the driver's side. I'm guessing as a safety thing because of traffic speeding by.

Anyway, maybe that's a reason some of the older cars didn't have or it was an option for driver side door locks?

My 61 PU has a door lock. Fortunately, it was keyed like the igniton. Took the lock in to make a key. My truck came with no keys.
