sounds like a vacuum leak, spray some soapy water around the carb and intake when its running and see if the idle changes when you spray

That's what I thought at first... I've tried that, doesn't appear to be leaking anywhere... I would think a vacuum leak would be pretty consistent... it just all of a sudden starts working fine, and then relapses into running rough seemingly at random. Plus the carter bbs that I have idles fine on there, it just won't run worth a damn going down the road!

then it must be you have 2 bad carbs, check on ebay or somewhere to find you a used one, I see rebuilt carbs on ebay that may be what you'll need to do, I don't know if your is worth rebuilding with this problem

Have you tried to richen the idle mixture? Sound lean.

I agree that it does seem lean, I have tried adjusting the mixture screw when it does this and it does affect the idle quality but it never clears up entirely.  However, on a brighter note, it seems it may have "fixed itself"...  I rans some errands and drove it about 25 miles last evening and it idled fine the whole time.  Gonna drive it to work today and hopefully it does the same.  I *HATE* not knowing what is going on there though, drives me crazy!

She's bonafide!! And the idle issue? ...it fixed itself, ha! We did over 800 miles in this weekend and it idled fine the whole time. It does use a bit of oil, I had to add two quarts over the course of the trip. It appears to have a leak at the rear of the valve cover and a small drip where the oil pressure line hooks up. I never see any blue smoke so I don't think it's burning much. Gonna get the leaks sealed up and just keep my eye on it.

Cruises at 65-70 just fine on flat land, we climbed some mountains in PA on rte 80, dropped to 55 or so on some of those but I can live with that. We've got a few ideas to increase the "creature comfort factor" for these road trips too so I'll update as that happens... good times!

In a long wheelbase 108 loaded with three large dudes and a full compliment of rock and roll gear though? We were climbing some mountains too... I mean, yea, more would be better, but I was pleased.

Congrats on the successful trip! Sounds like your oil usage might be resolved or at least minimized once you replace the seals.

You have a point there, mine's a shorty. I definitely get worse mileage at freeway speeds than tooling around town... I think you can do better with some tuning though... Congrats on roadworthyness too. It's a great feeling!

Yea, we were cruising at 70 most of the time.  All the aerodynamics of a cardboard box in a hurricane, ha! I have to say though, this dodge handles much better than any of my econolines, especially at freeway speeds.  More stable.

I agree, a little tuning and I think I can improve the mileage a bit.  I did install an electronic dist and module and it seems to have a bit more pep and starts easier too.

That's us, The Telltale Signs.  Thanks man!  Haha, yea my guys were a little hesitant at first but after this weekend, they're all on board.  We had a blast in this ol' tin can!
