Hello every one. I just picked up a little 64 van a few nights ago. I have lurking around reading all the great post. I traded my 86 V65 Magna for the van. So I figured I paid about 2k for the van. It is actually in pretty good shape. A little rust here and there. but no big deal. I have a friend that owns a body shop to help deal with that. It ran ok when I got it, but after a full tune up. the little six runs very well. Plans are to drop in a 5.0 and aod trans later. my daily driver is a nice little 65 Ranchero that I dropped in a 5.0 and aod. Runs great and gets 25 mpg. I figure in the van I should get similar since it is so lite. Once I figure out how to add pictures. I will be happy to show the new toy.

Re: Hello from another new member.
Thanks every one for the friendly welcomes. This seems to be a great site. Tons of info and friendly people. The little van has all ready made me park her. Seems no maintenance was ever done to this thing. I went out this morning to find leaks every where. A small one from the drain pan. Fixed that with a oil change and new plug and gasket. Fuel pump was dripping. Ordered a new one. Rear wheel cylinder is leaking. ordered every thing. New cylinders and brakes F/R and m going to do it right and replace all the lines while I am at it. Trans has a small leak as well. I will change the filter and fluid in it and check to see if the seal on the side of the trans may be leaking. I will see how the steering looks after all that is done. This is just some thing to keep me busy since I finished my fury. It is almost crazy how much every one seems to like it. A cool little unit indeed. I guess I have to wait for a week before I can post links or pictures?

You've got the right attitude! Fix it right the first time, get the important stuff done first, fun stuff later. Can't wait to see some pics!

If it sat around for a few years all those gaskets dry out, once you go threw it you should have no problems.

Re: Hello from another new member.
Welcome!
Might as well get a set of plugs, some points and condenser, check the cap and rotor and fuel/air filters too!
While you are under there, lube every moving part you can find. Sitting and lack of maintenance tends to dry out those things too.

Re: Hello from another new member.
I did a full tune up the day after I got it. Made a big difference. The van was used as a daily driver. Just neglected a lot from the looks of it. No big deal. I spent just over 5 years re doing every thing on my fury. I bought it from a junk yard and re did the whole thing. The van will be a piece of cake compared to it. I enjoy working on cars. So this is a way for me to relax and have another cool toy to drive. I am not sure what direction I will go with it. Getting the mechanics taken care of is the main thing now. It looks good enough to drive while I work on it.
