I have the gas tank out of the 64 and my question is do I need that 100lbs weight thats above the tank or should I take it off???

The vans that don't have the weight have two brackets for the gastank to nest against.I would leave it in, it's supposed to keep the rear wheels on the ground in a panic stop. With nothing in the van 60% of the weight is on the front wheels. Of course you could leave it out and put on a 80 pound rear bumper.

'Ter will tell you to keep it in. I'm thinking if you put a battery back there, hang the spare off the back door, and promise to keep the tank full....

I did the math,, and 1 big Coleman cooler , some ice and a few cases of refreshment will replace that iron.

Like Dan said thats what the tank sets on. If it doesn't have the # its got welded in rear mounts for tank.
