You can find those on some models of the GMC safari vans. My 2001 has that exact set up.

found this a few years ago. the first time i saw it it had original paint on the body. this is how this thing was built and not something done by a body shop. all the panels before the current bodywork showed original spotwelds and factory trimmed panels on the top of what looked like to regular doors. history of the vehicle shoed the original owner was a funeral home.??? easier to haul flowers than bending over the tailgate.
so to add to the gas tank strap confusion this was no doubt done FOR the customer by dodge at the time. kinda like the hemi dart conversions done by hurst down the road from the detriot assembly plant.

I was going to say. That would not be that hard to fab. And looking at JKR's pic's provides enough info to do it!

I would be more interested in having a back top with the windows that had shocks on it for getting hot air out of the van in the hot summer heat. Just like the new vans have. I think that it wouldn't be to hard to fab them up though. I think that alot of the vans today has a tailgate with the hatch that opens up on them.

I am thinking along the line of cutting the two doors just right up above the door handles & welding them to gather. Then put hinges on the top of them and add shocks to make them stay up when they are open. Would weld a lip on the 2 bottom doors and the top hatch part then install a gasket to make everything airtight & leak proof. You could even weld the two bottom doors together the same way as the top & make a tailgate out of them.
Kinda similar to the direction G-Man was going with his side door.

So many ways a guy could go with customizing our doors. I like the full gull wing myself. But that split barn door with the top half being like a hatch back has got me thinking for the rear doors. Time to take some measurements.

need donor van and use portion above rear wheel on passenger side. should be just about right size wize and lighter to work with than 2 door tops and welding and piecing them together. if the section is to wide cut a piece out of the center, cut the rubber, and glass down to size. to narrow add a strip on each end. easy mod.

I do like the thought of the 1st mods.
What about installing a movable sun roof in the rear of our vans-like many toyotas have ? My head will hurt way too much with the gull wing type doors?

I think a cool touch to those doors would be adding in the indention that the pickups have that say like "Dodge" or "Ford."

Well...my 01 safari (daily driver) is saved for another day. Doors measure to wide by about 8 inches and would need to be narrowed, or loose the stock tail light and run taller narrower like the cadilac tail light. The height however for the whole assembly is bang on and would fit right under the rain gutter. Hmmmmm man that is tempting.
