Re: A108 Revival project
Thanks for the support guys. I got a killer deal on new tires on EbAy's Tire rack store, so I got 'em. Falken's - 235/60-17 out back and 215/45-17 up front - $320 shipped!!! The whole wheel/tire combo cost about $800, which was hard to stomach, but it gave the old girl a real attitude adjustment.
When I installed the wheels, I removed the front shocks in an attempt to get some tire clearance and suspension travel back. Voila - travel and a much improved ride. I haven' highway tested it to see if it gets to bouncing, but will report back.
VW guys run cars like this when they narrow the front beam, and they ride fine (as fine as a lowered VW can). I realize with my van, there is actually weight over the front axle unlike a VW, so this is experimental.

Re: A108 Revival project
keep us posted what shocks to use, i'll be fliping my axles before spring, without going with the disc brake swap will my 14'' tires and wheels work? and do you think with beefy springs in the rear it will need a frame notch, what i mean is theres not much rear axle travel now, so if i do the axle flip and remove the bump stops do you think i can get away from cutting up the frame?

Re: A108 Revival project
Dodge man you can definitely get away without cutting into the frame. Just some new stiff shocks will do it! My dodge still has the sway bar and everything seems to be fine. And I'm running 15s with 60 series tires

Re: A108 Revival project
thanks OH, i'm glad i dont have to cut into the frame, i dont want to mess with the structure, i think with my 14'' wheels it should sit really low, i'm wheelchair bound now, so getting my 3 wheel scooter into the back should be much easyer,

Haven't changed the shocks yet. Mine are stock and bottomed out but still has clearance to the frame. About 3"-4"?

Re: A108 Revival project
I've only got it around the blocks not too far and gavent got it on the freeway yet. Seemed good though. I feel the vans handle better with a lower center of gravity. My GMC seems a bit top heavy compared to the dodge. Agentwilliams says his handle great and he has 1000 miles with it lowered as it is.

My experience says you'll have to notch the rear frame - unless your leaf springs are different than mine. Even with the bump stops cut down, I only had about 1/4" of rear travel. It was not driveable.
I actually cut the floor out above the axle to get a better look, and the only way to get some travel was to cut the frame. I also had to notch one floor brace towards the diff so the driveshaft wouldn't hit it.
I'm going to try to run the front without shocks. With the 1-2" of travel I have, the dampening isn't helping much.
It rides like a lowered vehicle, not plush, I dodge potholes, but it's not so low that I have to worry about opening manhole covers.

Just measured mine and it has about 2 1/4" of travel. Not sure if the 108 are different than the 90"?

Re: A108 Revival project
thanks OH, i should have plenty of travel sitting level the springs have a nice arch to them, i'll be starting on the front in the morning, i'll have to figure out the length of the u bolts i'll need, i know the front ones have to be flat to fit around the springs, and the rears will be round to go around the axle, do you reember what front u bolts you used?

Local parts stores have a good stock of them. Take your old ones in to match them. I bought longer ones and cut the excess once they were on.

Re: A108 Revival project
i got alot done fliping the front axle today, all i need to do is move a couple brake lines out of the way and bleed the brakes, i have about 3'' before hitting the bump stops, got to find some shocks to fit, i'll take some pictures tomorrow, with these 14'' wheels it sure sits low now, i'll start on the rear axle flip in couple days, anyone come up with a part number for shocks yet?

Re: A108 Revival project
Bad news after 1000 or so miles
My rear axle twisted about 10˚ on the perches. This caused my driveshaft to go way out of alignment and the straps to break. No real damage, but a towtruck was required.
SO -
Be warned, if you are lowering the back of your van like I did, you should weld the perches to the axle to make sure your axle doesn't twist.
Wanted to report back on the rear lowering.
