there are some other areas but they seem minor compared to these
probably looks pretty bad to you guys on the west coast but on the east coast it really didn't look so bad. Maybe I am an optimist but to me she is beautiful.Ok now I need to find some sheetmetal or a donor.

Awesome. Glad to hear you got it.

I know the feeling about how it looks to others. Some say my van's cute (mom), adorable (mother in law), cool (nephews), beautiful, fascinating, etc.
Others say WTF is that!, that's the scariest thing I've ever seen (wife), Why! (friends).

Looking forward to hearing a lot more about your new baby.

She is beautiful! If you were closer I could put you onto all the sheetmetal you could want. You will find what you need though, these guys here will do whatever they can for you. If it is shippable and I can get it for you just let me know.

I'd happily trade any of my future projects for it!

Later,

Glad you got your van. Cool For now I would get a 16X25 Ft tarp (Good one , I use the silver one side green other about $25) And cover it up to keep any more rain or snow out. And let it start to dry out some. Oh yea put the sliver side out, so,it don't get to hot. And it will look alot better so your neighbors(and wife) don't complain. Heres a few pics to get you inspired You think you got rust Laughing

Thanks to all. With the winter setting in and no room in the garage or my tent at the moment a tarp is the direction I am going. For now I will spend the winter putting together a game plan and looking for parts. If anyone has or comes across some of the things I need let me know(the rear roof area and gutter, front from top of grill down) Thanks again

It's on the link page look for the square with chevys on it. Alot of small items still out there. Things like lens always look better new, if yours are not in good shape. Other things also around that are not listed. Just got some tail light housings for a first gen that are not on that list. (mine were bent up pretty bad) I know you are a ways from this point, but this winter you can make a list of what you need and look for it here from members or catalogs. Heres a link to that section

Mike G-man's link takes you to the Chevy stuff. Alot of people have never seen the main page for the site. For some reason when you click on home it only takes you to the main page for the forum. Put this in your favorites then go look around. Lots of info there that's not accessable from the forum page.

That's awesome McFly! Common sense tells me we shouldn't do bodywork in winter, but I somehow think we'll both gain ground on our earlies despite the weather! If I had the same opportunity on a G like that, I'd have jumped on it! Good job!

OK Thanks guys found the page now the fun begins.I think sometimes it more fun planning, acquiring parts, and doing the work than having a finished project.Maybe that is why my wife is ready to do me in,I keep telling her a house should evolve over a period of time and not overnight. Smile

Mcfly,
Sure you have already figured it out that everyone here will do whatever they can to help you. If you need anything, just ask here first. Whether it's parts, advice or how-to-do things. The amount of knowledge of the folks on this site is staggering and whatever the issue, someone here has already face it and fixed it. So please ask first, it will save you a lot of frustration.

And always see the potential in the van. And make a “Project list” of everything you need to do to get it there. And when you are finished, you will have saved another “early”. Most everyone here started off with a “rough” van and brought it back to life, just as mine did and you will.
Mcflys First Early Van_be10
I have completed 90% of the mechanical and now is sound and safe to drive on the road, but it took time, patience and a lot of work. And if not for help from the folks here it would have taken twice as long.

most of these old girls start out as diamonds in the rough.
when I found mine it was pretty fugly.....
when I found it

Mcflys First Early 100_2378-1

When I found my early i still was not internet savy so all the work was done with no help of insperation for the Early van community.
the work that has to go into one of these old girls will be worth it when you get to take her for her first ride.

I wondered who got the No Door from the G's for sale forum.
I'd sent the guy an email since the 'Reserve Not Met' message was lit on Ebay.
I guess I'll have to wait my turn, again, still, some more... Very Happy
Congratulations on the find, you have my deepest envy, err, umm, well wishes!
Make sure you keep us posted on the progress! Smile
