swaping transmission ? Empty swaping transmission ?

Post by Linoman Wed Dec 21, 2011 6:28 pm

I picked up a AOD tranny to take the place of the 3 speed. Other than a cross member mount what will I need to do this. Do I need to switch the whole steering column or just the shifter tube to keep the stock look? Of those of you who have done this are there any pitfalls to avoid? This will most likely be a summer project, but want to get every thing together. Thanks

The first obvious question would be what engine do you have ? there has been some topics on this, just use the search and look for aod trans.

I'm mating it to a 300 I-6. I've done the search thing & didn't find what I was looking for. I really just need a list of parts that will need to be switched out. Well I'm sure I'll also need lots of sage advice from you all.

You only need to swap the outer column jacket and shift tube, not the whole column. You also need a shift rod from an auto truck or a cable setup that Vic makes thats really slick. Depending on which AOD tranny, you may need to install a button for the overdrive. Seperate tranny cooler also needed.

The tranny is out of a 88 mustang, Shifter & kick-down cables still attached, and the wire harness. I'll get in touch with Vic on parts & cost so I can prepare for this swap. Thanks
