Can anyone confirm this is a Ford 9" rearend code? The tag appears to read:
    7CR - S1
    3 00 7AB 783

This is on my supervan and I'll like to make sure it's the original equipment before I seek parts for it. I'll be needing a driver's side axel and a rebuild kit.

I don't have a complete break down on the axle codes. I see a WCR-S1 code in my book for a 67. It is a 3:00 conventional axle. Econolines only came with three different axles. 144's came with a 7" in 3:50 or 4:00 gears. 170's came with a 7.25 in 3:50 or 4:00 gears. Heavy Duty trucks and 240's came with 9" in 3:00, 3:50, 4:10, or 4:56. With the exception of the 4:56's 9" ring gear. The actual ring gear was 8-3/4. (still classed as a 9") All were 28 spline axle, small bearing type. All 9"s were available in either a limited slip or conventional diff.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Duane,
Upon closer inspection, that 7 is a greasy W.
So, I need to replace the driver's side axle. Is it any different from the passenger side? Do you know of any place where I can buy one?
    Thanks for the info.

The axles are different. I'm told the left is shorter than the right. I don't know the exact measurments but can get them if need be. The axles from a 61-64 Galaxie are the same as Econo's as long as they are the small bearing ones. The convertible and wagons had large bearings. I don't have a source for axles. Some online salvage yards sell loose axles but I don't know who. Several companies will make new axles for you but that gets pricy very fast.

Thanks Duane, I'll post an ad on the site to see if anyone has a spare. I may be in touch with you again on this one.

A year later, and I've found a 9" rear end from a 1965 short van that has a 240ci like my 67. Does anyone know if this should have the same splines to match the 9" in my 67 supervan? I hope to get the tag identity later today from the 65. Here's my corrected 67 tag:

    WCR - S1
    3 00 7AB 783
