ceiling/roof cross beams Empty ceiling/roof cross beams

Post by Rayallen Fri Oct 14, 2011 4:00 pm

I have rust under the cross beams, owners before me had carpet padding there which attracted moisture. From my other threads you can tell they had freaking carpet everywhere, what were they thinking.

Can this cross beams be removed? 2 of them actually have a weak point that cracked somewhere in the vans life. Can these be replaced if so where can I find this part?

A pic to show you what i am dealing with

I drilled out the spotwelds at the joint where it meats the wall in order to straighten and weld repair the ribs. I think there are four spots on each side. The carpet scraps are to prevent the roof from buckling due to airflow on the highway, or rattling against the ribs. So you will want to use a method to insulate between the ribs and roof again, but the material is up to you.

My roof had the same rust pattern as your's, which I believe is due to the roof and ribs being assembled prior to painting. Pretty normal.

I always use spray foam between the roof and the ribs where there is gaps. The same on the sides, Not the high expansion foam, it can warp the panels.
