So, as some of you my already know Im planning to install a Chevy V6 and 700R4 overdrive trans into my 67 Econoline. Let me start of by saying i have much respect for the ole 240 straight 6 and C4 trans and the reason for the swap isnt because i wanted to get rid of the Ford drivetrain. I have a basically new 700R4 from a previous project sitting and collecting dust. So after some research decided to put a chevy in front of the 700R4 instead of an adapter plate to Ford.

Anyways, I built most of the motor yesterday. today I plan to make the brackets to mount the turbo to the drivers side head. Once the motor is complete it will simply be a matter of finding a couple of days off in a row that i feel i will need to pull the old 240/C4 out and install the new Chevy 262/700R4.

thank you...i just hope i can get that pig to fit in between my seats lol.

i just added some pics of the turbo and bracket.....but im not positive that it will stay there on the drivers side front head.

i might have to get creative but i have decided that im not going to do any more fabricating until i get the motor mocked up in the van. i dont want to spend hours routing exhaust tubing to the turbo only to find out there is an axle, cross member, or tie rod in the way.

when i built my chev for the van -I also seriously considered using a set of studs for the heads- then i had a brain wave & realized if I ever needed to change the heads Id have to pull the motor to do it= affraid Nice lookinj setup-

??? you can just remove the studs with an allen wrench. im thinking that with the custom dog house the most i would have to remove (providing i didnt want to remove the studs) would be the front seats.

I think I would mount the turbo somewhere under the floor right behind the drivers seat. I wouldn't want the heat the turbo puts off in the doghouse. A heatshield above it would help keep the floor from getting hot.

yes i agree but you have to remember that the oil drain from the turbo is gravity fed so you have to mount the turbo at least a couple inches above the oil level in the pan. its looking like i will be mounting the turbo off of the rear of the passenger side head.

so i finished up the hot side. i will still wrap it with header wrap. i plan to simply dump the wastegate to atmosphere instead of dumping it back into the downpipe. im curious to hear what that will sound like. Smile

still have to run the oil return line....more on that fiasco later Sad

here are a couple more pics...

Nice!!- im curoius about the "gravity oil return" off the turbo? wouldnt it be better to pressure feed thye turbo ? have a small oil cooler . Longevity of the turbo bearings?

no, the oil feed is pressurized. pressurized oil inters the top of the turbo feeds into the bearings. the oil exits the bearing in a frothy state into the large gravity fed oil return line back to the oil pan.
