WHERE IS VIN# LOCATED.??

New guy here, i just bought a 1970 dodge a100 van. the guy lost the title and i was trying to run the vin# there is a plate on the drivers side wheel hump but it says SERIAL# and when i try to run it it says must be 17 charecters. this is not the vin# i take it. i did go through your vin info and it is just what it says. it has no doors on the side. tradesman. 6 cyl. auto. where is the actual vin# or is the serial# the vin.??? thanks for any help.

only a 10 digit serial number for the van. 17 digit vin numbers came in around the early 80's and do not apply to a van of this age. located on the left dogleg front door.vin number is the same as serial number.breakdown like this...
1st digit---model
2nd ---body
3rd ---engine
4th --- assembly plant
5th thru 10th --- sequence number
1970 were basicly leftover vehicles and the dodge boys upgraded the vin plate so if you ever take it off there might be an extra hole or two under it. you should try dodgevanman.com and go to techinical link for your application. .....................good luck.......jeff

hey thanks for the info. i went to the vin id link on the site. its just what it says it is. so the serial# is the vin#. If i may ask, WHAT IS THE DOGLEG.???? the vin plate on my van is on the wheel hump/drivers side when you open the door you can see it. newbe here so..... by the way, there is 13 digits in my serial#

thats what i call the body piece over the wheel. i do belive the parts book called it that also.
the breakdown of the vin did come out correct did it?
13 digits is probably correct for your vin.

yep it did come out correct. so is this body peice over the wheel well the (dogleg)?? there was another sticker type label right along side of it that looks like it might of had the same digits. all you can see is the a1. the rest is worn off.

there should be a number stamped on the passengers side frame behind the front wheel should be the same as the ones on the dog leg-if not buyer beware

If I'm not mistaken, 1970 A's had a 13-digit VIN. Should start with the letter A.
