Post by sunnskate Thu Mar 17, 2011 4:29 pm

So a gentleman aproched me today with a trade my 1966 ford econoline supervan, that has little to no rust, that runs. for a G10 Chevrolet sport van 1966. the chevrolet does not run. But has no rust and no dents. all the glass is good very clean. Both van are AZ vans never in the east or near the sea. Is one van better than the other. Im new to the van world but loven it. I just dont want to miss out on a good deal. what do you all think?

why does the chevy not run?? blown engine?? tranny?? wiring?? you know what you have. Do you know what you would be getting???. 1 van running is worth more than 2 that do not. just my 2 cents

Plus you cant bail on a Ford in the 50th anniversary celebration year either. It's sacrilegious.

Ford or chevrolet Empty Stick with the Econoline

    Post by Vanner63 Sun Mar 20, 2011 5:42 pm

I have owned all three. The last being my recent Econoline pickup. The Econoline though lighter framed than the Dodge is still the better looking van and parts are way more plentiful. But the Dodge has a heavier stock suspension. Ford came out with the Heavy Duty to compete with Dodge. The V-8 in one of these vans is not needed and is just a way to spend money. Chevy/GMC parts are scarce and they copied exactly the Econoline uni-body so it is no better or worse than the Econoline. It boils down to this, Blue Oval, Pentastar or Bowtie. Take your pick! But I would stick with the Econoline.

ol thread, Y is it top'o my feed? Anyway:

Only the cheb if 1st gen ('64/6) as I like it as much as samba (tiny subie & 1st yr ve dub's no window, 8dor). Hada '68 108 i6 cheb as a 2 yr old too (even as a ford guy, but that came later in life after wrkin w/the 6 i6 fords in bronks'n stangs - "ThriftPower" 2.3 - 4.9L, '60 - '96).

The look of that ist gen is great. An 8dor, just the 3 windows (plus the lill tryangle on pass side for intersection safety)? A 292 & is it power glide my bud has in his 8 sec tacoma motorer starlette drag? Or better, the modern (not a cheb guy to know model) 4 speed auto? I'd luv it in my reg style sleeper mods. All OEM looking w/performance mods (that wrd = MPGs and pep). That cheb'd B over the top if 4WD but I dont have enuff yrs in my life to finish such a sweet lill rig. aahahahaa
    Mmmmm, dreams, no?

One cool thing is for a few yrs cheb made this and the Greenbriar (2 yrs) simeltaniously.
