I have an Econoline door emblem script that has seen better days. I want to paint it black. What prep should I use, and what kind of primer? I steel wooled it all over, and filed away the rough little bits but it hardly looks scratched from that abuse (time has taken it's toll though). I hope to not have it chip away bit by bit after I'm done.

Re: Paint Chrome???
Dip it in a can of that liquid rubber stuff for electricians tools for an "electric" orange finish. Im sure they have black too.

Re: Paint Chrome???
Do not sand blast it! If you ever want to go back to chroming it, it'll be ruined. That old pot metal is weak and brittle sometimes. If you want to paint it just scuff down the best you can with 60-100 grit sand paper and shoot it, or have a shop throw it in with the next time they shoot something black.
