found one for $150.00 and in great shape too. The guy had three of them but he wouldn't part with the other two.

Re: Econo tailgate
Question?..anyone know of another pickup tailgate that fits our econolines?
Maybe 1955 to 59 F150 or a later Ranger/Mazda?
Anyone ever try?

Re: Econo tailgate
the early flairside beds fit but are short... I seen one on a truck that was advertised as having the rare special ordered short tail gate.... I just shook my head...

Re: Econo tailgate
Only the Econoline tailgate will fit our trucks. There is a slight curve to the tailgate that is unique to them. The unibody F series trucks have a similar gate but it's much wider.
Ford did indeed offer a "short" gate. It was a dockloader gate. It was designed to allow the gate to swing straight down so you could back up to a doorway to load the bed. The normal height gate would hit the ground if allowed to hang down. I've seen a few over the years.
Here's a picture of a short gate.
