Styles of vans Empty Styles of vans

Post by jreese Fri Sep 26, 2008 7:41 am

I have been looking and reading here for a while now and even posting. I have been trying to learn everything about the early econolines and have a question on the available body styles.

Did the long body vans come in an eight door version?
Did the long body vans come as no doors?
I have seen the 144, 170, 200 and 240 six talked about, did Ford put the 260 or 289 V8 in the vans?
Does anybody know of or have read any explanation as to why Ford just extended the body instead of the wheel base like the other two?

Thanks for any light you all can shed on this.

Jim they did make a supervan 8 doors (there one on ebay right now) I do know that no early econo's came with V8's.

On the longer van with the short wheel base my guess is it was cheaper to just make it longer instead of having two versions

Not sure about a no door supervan, don't think I have seen one yet confused

Now I remember I saw that and it slipped my mind. I am really intrigued by the variations and in particular the display vans. Thanks for the information.

I wish I had time and space to get an early and play with it, guess I will just have to watch you all a bit longer and at some point buy one mostly finished. I had the 2nd generation Ford long bed and now I think what a great fishing trip van it would make.

I tried to find an early econoline when I was in high school, there were a lot of them in SoCal in '74.

    Thanks again. Jim

benwah, I think its just what you said mostly fancier trim for the most part. Chevy sportvans are like that too.
