I have searched, but haven't found very many bumper swap pics. I saw the Granada one, and that looked pretty good. Saw a 2 piece bumper on an Econoline. Looked like a good start. Anyone else have any bumper swaps to show off? Any thoughts on what may, or may not, work? I'm thinking about swapping out the rear bumper on my '64......

A bit "Radical" for most...but I sectioned a Pontiac Bonneville front end by 12" and added it to my 69 G-10!

Re: Bumper swaps?
Back in the day, when I owned the 64 Jimmy, it had no bumpers when I purchased it. I installed a 3" wide length of heavy steel channel on the front and a 6" one on the back. Then they were painted semigloss black. Next, wood inlays of matching widths were made (propane torch surface burn, wire brushed and outdoor varithaned) and installed front and back; simple and stronger than stock.

Re: Bumper swaps?
Summer of 1971, I bought my first van. '67 Chevy, 90" wheelbase, 230 c.i. with a powerglide and windows in the back doors only. Couple of years later I carved bumpers out of a pine 2x8, stained and varnished 'em. I literally used a $10 set of chisels to carve "Keep on Truckin'" in the front (imagne that). I left room for my license plate on the back, added some fold down steps and some other nice touches. I have one pic of the van, but you can't see the bumpers. It was a pretty easy build, and I got a lot of compliments on 'em!

Re: Bumper swaps?
Thanks for all the input. Anyone have any other ideas? Any pics from shows? I'm wondering how close a 60's Chevy truck bumper is. My buddy is gonna visit his storage and check his truck out for me. He said he might have a 70's Camaro bumper there, too. We'll see.....

Re: Bumper swaps?
1 option other than the mounting holes not being in the right place are the early Econoline bumpers they had some sort of a change in length I can't remember if it was 61-63 or the later ones almost a perfect length and they fit the bodyline well. I was going to use one but the one that was given to me was too twisted to really work well. It was the correct length though.

Re: Bumper swaps?
I thought the later model Econo bumpers looked a lot like GM's only beefier. About an 86 I think. I took 3 inches out of the center ( probably should have went 5 or 6 ) of a rear econo bumper and actually had 2 bolt holes, one on each side of the Econo bumper, line up with 2 of the the holes in the original stock GM bumper brackets.
For the front to keep the front and rear looking the same, I again used a stock 86 Econo rear bumper. ( yea, 2 rears, one for the front and one for the rear ) The front took a little more modification, but was still pretty straight forward. Think I took 4 inches out of the center and pie cut the bumper 2 times at each corner to get a subtle curve. Pretty happy with the results at both ends of my 70. Most people don't even notice !!! LOL
