Re: Water pump?
I would say the long shaft is for 2 belt systems,,,,you measure the height of the flange, like how far it sticks out from the engine,,,,,,do you need a 2 belt pulley????? I will get you a measurement of a 6 cylinder pulley so maybe that E bay one will work,,,,,,,

Re: Water pump?
Don I hadn't thought about comparing the two until I read your post. In your pic what are the two pumps off of ?
The bolt pattern on the 292 matches with the pattern on the 283 ( 1 1/4" center to center ) and the depth of the pulleys from both engines matches (2 3/4")back edge to face of pulley. Looks like the one on e-bay would work. I only need a single belt pulley, not running anything but the alternator.
What I'm trying to figure out now is do I have a long or short pump on the 283. When you look at the pulley selection in the catalogs it list them for long or short pumps. On my 283 the distance from the block to the front of the pump flange is 5 9/16". The pump is built in a horse shoe shape and bolts to the block on either side of the timing chain cover. With that measurement would it be a long or short?
